Hey Freepers,
Being in the giving spirit of the holidays, I figured I would volunteer to sit through the sickening experience of watching the CBS Evening News tonight. So the rest of you would not have to.
I was wondering how the would report the news about the Justice Department opening an investigaion to the illegal leaking of classified information in regards to the NSA program that is designed to protect us from terrorism.
As I expected, as we all did, CBS tried to spin it to make it sound as if the party who leaked it did nothing wrong.
THE IRONY in all of it? Well, since there could have been dozens who leaked the information, CBS News has seemed to take the position that it is ok that the info was leaked.
Compare this to the Valerie "I never met a camera I didn't strip for" Plame story. According to Andrea Mitchell and others, dang near all of Washington knew that Plame worked for the CIA. Mainly because she told them. And keep in mind that it is obvious that Plame was not covert at the time her info went out. Meaning nobody leaked classified info in that case. Which is why nobody was charged with it.
But that logic is wasted on CBS. Dozens knew about a non-crime in the Plame case, so somebody (only if its a republican) should go to jail. But in the case where there was a crime (likely by an anti-Bush player), the leaking of the NSA information, CBS reported it as if it were a non issue.
Should be no shock since it is...cBS.
cBS spins it PING
I just hope they AGRESSIVELY pursue the leaker(s) and prosecute them to the full extent of the law!!!
There have been too many "leaks" over the last few years, most of which have been to embarrass the current administration.
These are the same people who would be selling classified information to the russians, et al., but somehow they feel their "treason" is justified because they don't agree with --put reason here--.
Disclosure of classified information is punishable by significant fines and lengthy prison terms.
Treason is Treason, regardless of which party is in power.
Many knew about parts of D Day plans as well, was it then OK for them to leak it?
We are at war people!
You are correct in saying many people knew about D-day.
If the New York Times had known it Hitler would have to.
Anyway, they are dealing with the FBI now, they are not going to weasel out of this one so quickly.
I gave up totally on cBS after RatherGate. All the left wing medial moguls will spin this the same way.
I have to support CBS's position. They have a memo that was widely distributed throughout Washington. Rather just faxed it to them.
You know the strange dynamic is, is that in the Plame case, no law was broken, and there was no intent to do harm to the national interest. In the case of the NSA leak it was done specifically against the law and with intent to harm the commander-in-chief and the national interest. With all of the coverage and hype about Plame, these MSM bastards reveal, once again, what they are. They are unAmerican, antiAmerican. They seek to harm the country at a time of war. Anyone who cannot see this are doing so willfully.
One of the truth challenged cables briefly discussed this momentous ( IMHO ) happening this afternoon. Behind the anchorette they had " Justice Dept Launches NSA Leak Investigation " and underneath that, a picture.
The investigation finally begun today is to identify the leaker / traitor ,but, they inserted a picture of President Bush beneath the logo, which gave the impression that Justice had launched an investigation into him.
Typical shabby standards of the fossilized media.
If there was one leaker, one leaker should be punished. If it was dozens, than let dozens be punished.
'Could have been dozens' makes no sense. It *could* have been one leaker. Everyone in the program *could* have leaked it. The only relevant issue is who *did*.
Well...I watched Norah O'Donnell on Hardball...so YOU wouldn't have to...
and the way she put it...she was talking to a guest and said, "George Bush is going to be taking a lot of scandals and investigations of scandals into the New Year with him, isn't he?...just like the new one the Justice Dept. announced today about the NSA wiretaps"...
Totally spun it like this was an investigation and "scandal" against Bush...sheesh
Well put.
If dozens knew, then someone leaked. Who was it?
CBS, the NYT, and all the MSM believe it is ok to leak because the American citizens have a right to know EVERYTHING this evil Bush administration has done to this country in 5 years. They want their country back at all costs, even if it means spilling out every secret we have. They state this in the open on the Err America - callers and talk show hosts alike. "IMPEACH HIM NOW", is the mantra 24/7. The MSM and even some on the FR over the past 2 weeks have argued there is nothing illegal about the NYT printing the story. I disagree and even if it isn't technically breaking any law by printing, since they didn't disclose the secret, I still say it is treason when done knowingly. Earlier there was a post of section 798, disclosure of classified information, and while I am not an attorney it states the publishing of classified information is covered. In previous posts I have argued printing is disclosure, but they always throw back the Freedom of the Press. I still think it is treason and I am seeing the "T" word used a lot today in the media.
Why do these bastards take the lives of their fellow countrymen and the security of America so much for granted??? There is no way we can punish such stupid ingrates in a manner that is meaningful enough! They are no better than the Liberal Leftist Rosenbergs that GAVE away our Atomic Bomb secrets to the USSR!!!
We can't even get someone put to death for traitorous behavior today!!! We can't even convict anyone of being a traitor while catching them right in the act!!!
It's not Politically Correct to do that anymore!!!
You nailed it.
