Anyway, on Christmas Day, her little sister, her husband and two kids secretly flew up here and rented a car in St. Louis. Her sister called her while they were driving to Columbia (90 minutes) and wished her a Merry Christmas, apparently from Corpus. At about 9:45 pm, the doorbell rang. My wife answered the door to see them at her doorstep for a week, a total surprise. We've had a good week. Happy New Year everyone. God bless.
We were raking leaves this week and need to water...
We had already put the foam faucet covers on a month or so ago...when the temps got down to the teens and we had ice...
Sigh, sigh, siiiiiiiiiigh...it is NOT supposed to be 80 darn degress on New Years...it has taken away my football and cooking fun..
I LOVE Sundays in the winter, watching football, and cooking something on the stove all day...spagetti sauce, chili, or just pinto beans and ham...but, it has been too hot this winter so far.
LOL---glad you could use it!
He is a Vietnam Vet...but can't make his own sandwich...sheesh!!
I told him a long time ago...that he better take out a hugh life insurance policy on me...because if I die before he does...he is gonna have to hire a maid and cook...
I have known people like that. They seem to completely forget that THEY once smoked. Reformed smokers can be some of the worst anti-smoking Nazis. I vowed never to become one.
it doesn't do any good to nag them.
No, it doesn't. Nothing anyone said to me made a bit of difference. I knew they all meant well, but I guess I am stubborn. In my case, it wasn't until I physically could not continue that I finally quit. And it feels good not to be controlled by cigarettes. I recommend it to everyone who is still smoking.....but that's as far as I am going to go in trying to reform them.
Congratulations on quitting, Txsleuth. It's no easy task.
Thanks, we haven't set a date yet and really aren't in any big hurry to do so. It's not as if we're exactly spring chickens. ;^)
When I pinged you this morning about the fireworks starting around 6:30 a.m. I never heard any sirens of police racing to check it out. The firecrackers lasted about an hour and a half, since then I've not heard one pop and I've got the window in the study cracked a bit because the house got a bit warm during the afternoon so I'd have heard them if they were being popped.
We'll see how it goes around midnight. Of course, it could very well be the police are patrolling residential streets and nipping it in the bud. (One of the nice things living in a small town of 4,500 is it doesn't take long for the cops to make their rounds.)
Damg....if they had that here...I would be out now..with my cellphone and headphones (for music, doncha know!)...
Two of the fires that started here were from welding accidents..the others, they don't know.
I told my husband that I bet that President Bush has added patrols around his ranch...he has a LOT of brush.
THANK YOU!
Now those are the perfect fireworks...safe, funny and cute!!
You know, Dr. Phil said something that has stayed with me... "You always replace a habit with another habit."
Confession time: My replacement habit is CHEWING GUM. I mix Nicorette with a certain flavor of Trident gum. I haven't yet broken the chewing habit, but I know it's much better than sucking on cigs all the time. Different strokes for different folks! ;-)
Your hubby probably can't really smell the goop you clean off the walls, etc, yet. But once he's been "clean" for a couple of weeks, get some Windex and a paper towel - wipe off an area of glass that's been exposed to his smoke - and have him take a sniff. It's a real eye-opener.
Oh... And since I've warned you about asking him how he's doing/feeling, I need to add that he'll be needing a few "atta-boys" occasionally. And to hubby, just tell him to STAY BUSY such as taking walks, working on a project, etc. Also going to non smoking venues such as movies or a library is helpful.
Tell him I wish him all the best! And IF he fails, it ain't disaster... Just get back on his feet and try again!
;)
You asked for that one. LOL!!!
Ok, what did I miss while I was in the kitchen getting a coke? What could B8U have posted about seasoning cast iron that would have caused a post deletion. Sheesh, leave for a few minutes and all heck breaks out. ;^)
This is working with Stanford University...WHOHOO!!!
It's really easy. The program just runs in the background and only uses computer power you're not using. It REALLY helps if you can let it run all night.
We are leaving the DUmmies in the dust!!!
If you want more info, go this latest thread or search on "folding:"

Petronski said it best:
Well I have two CPUs (amassing 2.8 GHz) on the project, just out of a sense of spite for DUmmyland.
Well said!
Do some good work in the New Year!!
Hi guys....I am sorry that I haven't been holding up my end of the thread today...
I got up this morning with the goal of getting my grocery and other shopping done EARLY...so I could enjoy an afternoon of freeping fun with my friends...
BUT, best laid plans...I came home and started putting the groceries in the refrigerator...a LOT of groceries..and I had bought some yesterday at a different store that carries stuff my regular store doesn't...
ANYWAY...I noticed that my Dr. Pepper that I pulled out to drink wasn't very cold...and when I opened the freezer to insert frozen food...I saw melted popsicles...
UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
My husband and I had to go to two stores to find a refrigerator that A. I Lked...and B. that they had in stock, so I could take it home...before all of that food ruined.
Well...we did that...but, got home and the fridge is a lot bigger than the other...and I had to remove permanently my pantry door..to fit the fridge...my old one is still in the kitchen, because my son had a party to go to..and didn't have time to help get it out..
LOL...Happy New Years to ME!!!!
Do not know about any deletes. I was just poking a little fun.
LOL!! Love that Steve Martin piece!!
Holy Toledo, Beagle!!! Start at about #256 and keep scrolling! We'd LOVE to have your recipes!
I have to admit it, once and for all....that this stuff about "folding" is just so much "greek to me"....
I have NO CLUE what you are talking about...and I have even read your advertisments....
You see....I turn on my computer...go to Free Republic, scan, post, shut off the computer. That is the scope of my computer skills.
Go for it!
