Thanks for the recipe; copied it for later use. Had foot surgery Thursday, so I'm taking it easy at home, trying to keep the foot elevated. (But sneaking in housework every now and then.)

My new year resolution has been the same for past 20+ yrs: not to keep any resolutions that I make on new year's eve.My biggest dilemma is to find a restaurant that serves edible food, not any more Fç"é& goat meat.
From Tombouktou (Mali, West Africa) where the temperature is a balmy 85° ( very cold for the locals) at 0910 Hrs, we wish y'all/youse, a very happy and prosperous new year and may all your dreams materiale in 2006.
So great of you to check in from Mali...
(I admit...I had to look it up....)
If you can, we'd love to hear what brought you to Mali...
Best luck and blessing to you and yours!

By reputation, the President was a very avid and skillful poker player when he was an MBA student. One of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand. This is a pattern of behavior one sees repeatedly in George W. Bushs political career. He is not one to loudly proclaim his strengths at the beginning of a campaign. Instead, he bides his time, does not respond forcefully, at least at first, to critiques from his enemies, no matter how loud and annoying they get. If anything, this apparent passivity only goads them into making their case more emphatically. Very insightful, bys!! I think you have nailed W's style.

Happy new year, Paulat and all!
Glad to see 2005 go by the boards, glad to welcome 2006, by God's grace may it be a good one for all.
2005 kind of turned out OK in the end, so that's a good thing, as Martha Stewart might say.

I don't post very much......but I do want you all to know that this is my first stop in the morning for news and lively conversation. May god bless all of you and best wishes for a Happy New Year !!! From my family to yours.....Oh and my son is 13 today.........any advice??? I'm not a mom ('cept to my 2 tomcats)...but the first thing I might ask - is he a "young" 13, or an "older" 13? That's an age that can go either way.
Moms, Dads, Grammas, Grandpas, Aunts, Uncles...advice for Jeffrey D.??

and to stop, as best I can, with the curse words. Of course, this being an election year, that may be VERY hard I know...it's almost like Tourette's...but it only happends when I hear Barbara Boxer, Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, Hillary, Barbra Streisand....

Well, 2005 was not a good year for me.
From the lack of ethics and loyalty of my Japanese partners that cost me at least $150k to ending the 1 yr relationship with a woman, professing to be conservative and a born-again Christian, who was dishonest, unfaithful and most definitely unChristian-like. Her first 2 marriages eneded due to her adultry and she's been on proZac and currently taking Effor-XL.
Some people don't change regardless of what they profess.
So 2006 can't get here fast enogh!
And thanks to Freepers everywhere for always bring a ray of sunlight into my life...among other things. God Bless all of you!

This year saw a tragic death in our family. Maybe some of you remember I posted in July that our DIL was killed in an accident in which our son was driving. 35 yrs old and been married 2 months. So this NY Eve brings bittersweet memories. There is always hope in a new year. You and your family continue to be in our prayers, kathy!

Every new year we have this * traditional * Cajun feast.
Seafood casserole:
Ingredients: Milk, Butter, Flour, Celery, Onions, garlic , seafood.
In a big cooking pot, cook 3 cups of Celery, 2 Cups Onions, 3 table spoons of Butter, 1/2 clove of Garlic to a crisp. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Sauce: Now add 3 1/2 cups of Milk, 3/4 cup of Butter, 1 cup of Flour...mix together thoroughly on medium heat till there are no lumps, then ADD 1lb Velvetta Cheese...stir frequently till melted...DO NOT BRING TO BOIL...low to medium heat.
Now you add the Seafood.
1 lb Lobster
1 lb Scallops
1 lb medium sized shrimp
1 lb Quahogs ( or use clams )
1 1/2 lb of Crab meat
stir frequently on low heat...let simmer for a good 30minutes so seafood juices flow out...
This dish is best served reheated the day after, to be quite honest.
We have this and traditional Ham, potatoes, carrots, green beans and usually a coconut cream pie.
:D ENJOY!

Only a 1/2 clove garlic? Hardly seems worth the trouble. What happens if you use more?

Happy New Year!
Have to stay at home for New Years Eve.....crazy people shooting off fireworks!! Need to keep the dry grass and bushes damp and pray a spark doesn't get us!
No resolutions. And for recipes.....Artichoke dip and stuffed mushrooms. So far....I'm addicted to football, so all cooking will have to be done at halftime or between games!

2006 might be the year to look for a new homestead. Kinda sad, really. In the 8 years we've had this house, we have put in ALOT of work and quite a few dollars, too. Roof, floors, appliances, windows, landscaping.....it's ALMOST just the way we want it. Now the neighborhood is going to crap. Ah well..... new year.... new digs. If only I could win the lottery.
