Oh my -- you went to NC State?? What years?? Were you there when Jimmy Valvano was?? HE was a GREAT guy!! I loved in Durham from 1981 to 1983. It was a heady time in ACC Basketball... Michael Jordan, Spudd Webb...too many to mention!

I was there from 1980-1986 doing my doctoral work (yes, I finished the degree).
National Championship in 1983 with Coach V; watched Micheal, Spud, and the rest; still live for the ACC Basketball Tournament each year. Mrs. Arm_Bears is a UVA grad, so things get tense at our house every March.
I always thought that I'd like to live in Durham if I had stayed in the Triangle area. Loving in Durham has its appeal, too.

I have the SI issue, the Raleigh paper (Noise and Disturber), and a commemorative bottle of Coke sitting my bookshelf.

Our cowbell may not make it through the day. Everyone walks by it and has to pick it up and ring it. Of course I would never do that except to announce "the dog wants out/in, number 2 son is up, cat wants out/in, or whoever left their shoes in the middle of the floor better move them ;-).

As I recall, UNC and NCSU grabbed the national title in consecutive years (talk about a dominant conference). I was doing some coursework at UNC the year they won it, so I got to go through the experience twice. Everything in Chapel Hill was painted light blue, everything in Raleigh was painted red.
Good memories.

Our oldest son brought one home from school right before Thanksgiving. It was handed out as some sort of promotional item for the track team--Why, I don't know. Anyway, he has been ringing it to announce all manner of things (finished homework, dog is in his room, taking a bath, going to bed). I fervently hope it wears out soon.

A cowbell in salsa bands is a staple instrument. :-)
Whenever I hear cowbells in songs I remember the Saturday Night Live skit. LOL

Yes -- and it's so nice to bump into someone else who remembers. When Dean Smith's Tarheels went into four corners it was over! LOL I actually enjoyed watching State, UNC AND Duke -- I liked them all. They were all great!

There was even a bar on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, across from the campus, called the 4-Corners Lounge. (I never went into it, mind you; just passed by it on my way to class.)
And it was Coach V who came up with the way around the four corners--Foul 'em, put 'em on the line, and get the rebound when they miss. That's how the Pack won most of their early games in the 1983 NCAA tournament.
