Following the Dec. 7 season finale of South Park, titled "Bloody Mary," the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights slammed the network for its irreverent portrayal of church icons and sought to block the episode from being rebroadcast.
It appears the group may have met with success. A repeat of the finale was scheduled to air Wednesday night, but was seemingly pulled from the Comedy Central lineup without explanation.
In the episode, a statue of the Virgin Mary is believed to be bleeding from its rear end, inspiring faithful parishioners to flock from miles around to be healed by the miraculous blood.

As I remember an other episode depicted (in the eyes of the foul mouthed weebles) bleeding from the rectum as sign of maturity. Although it was ultimately revealed to be an infection of some sort.

I agree. South Park is one of the few shows that is geniuinely irreverent, meaning it attacks everyone and anything. You can't cheer when they lampoon the environmental whackos and not expect them to take on Christianity or Islam or anything else.

the occasional blue wordOccasional??!! We had to turn it off because the constant background chant of "America, F*** Yeah!" was so annoying.

That's why I believe that we have a responsibility to avoid mindless ridicule against religions--even if it makes many people laugh. It's not mindless...

but we also have a moral responsibility to avoid ridiculing religions in such a way as to defame them.Reminds me of what the mullahs say when they see an "offensive" Muslim cartoon. Two peas in a pod.

I will say that this episode would have offended me. Happy I did not see it.

Change the channel if you don't like what you see, and vote with your eyes. Note: The network CHOSE to pull the show. No censorship was involved. The network made a decision to run the show and then decided it was a mistake. It happens all the time.

Censorship is necessary for civilization. Those barbarians should have been placed in the stocks long ago, rather than given a podium on cable and later broadcast TV, lots of cash, and bootlickings from the Last Men who, when faced with matters of ultimate importance, can but giggle and point.

South park insults everybody. I'd argue that this isn't true, they insult people who often time deserve it. ;~D It's not random.
If they have their way, I wouldn't be surprised if they come up with an episode making fun of the people who complain about it.
I'm sure they will ;~D... They had one show where the parents were protesting at the Network offices by catapulting themselves into the wall of the building, one every minute until they got what they want.
