Unfortunately, the posting of any AFX news content (that presumably includes excerpts) is expressly prohibited, so I can only leave you with this link:
Ferrovial, ACS compete for 2.1 bln eur Texas motorway contracts - report
Trans-Texas Corridor PING!
The articles discusses the 29 - 36 billion-dollar TTC project. I though it was 184 billion.
There is also discussion of another DFW connector and a Dallas ring road. First I've read of them...
BTTT
Given that it says "operate", I'm wondering if they aren't looking to turn the Bush Tollway into a full ringroad. As to the new link between the cities, where the heck are they going to put it? Maybe they mean they will be widening 183 or I-30.
$184 billion was only an estimate if every single proposed road in the sketchy 50-year concept was found to be viable and built. However the roads through west Texas will never be built, because there will never be sufficient demand or justification. Anti-toll road opponents love to toss out the $184 billion figure and imply that it is the cost for just the lone DFW-San Antonio road, but that part is actually $6-8 billion (of which the state will pay about $200 million.)
bump for publicity
Back atcha!
Ring road could be completion of the Bush Turnpike, which circles the northeast, north, and northwest parts of Dallas, from Rowlett and Plano to Carrollton and Irving. Or it could be a final outer loop around the entire DFW area, most of which were in the options for the Oklahoma-San Antonio TTC-35 proposal. Would share ROW with the proposed freight rail bypass around DFW, intended to pull most hazmat freight from passing through the city and suburbs.
Would be interesting to know what the timeline is that is being discussed. The $29-36 billion figure sounds like it is probably for the entire TTC-35 (Oklahoma-McAllen), TTC-69 (Texarkana/Shreveport-Laredo), related ring roads around DFW and Houston, and various short connections. Perhaps also a Houston connection to TTC-35. That would be pretty much all the major projects that would be economically viable in the next 30 years.
360 North of Arlington is being completed to the Grapevine area or beyond... I-45 from Corsicana to Dallas has been and is undergoing major expansion.
President GWH Bush, eastward extension
And the list goes on..... The DFW and Houston metroplex areas have seen a huge amount of road construction the past few years and is continuing.
Why the heck are foreign companies building and operating toll roads in Texas? This is stupid and un-American.
Thanks for the ping!
You're welcome. :-)
Haven't they finished GBTP Segment IV already? Wish I could get down there sometime and check it all out...
To be honest I don't know if it's totally completed. It was supposed to be open by the fall but don't know if that was total completion or not.... My daughter used to live in an apartment complex next to the PGBT from which you could hear the toll booths ringing constantly when cars blew by without paying.
I was up on I-45 between Houston and Dallas today and the traffic was bumper to bumper and side by side... It was moving but still not that safe. The slow lane was running 70-75 with the fast lane 80-85. Take your pick and get in a lane and try to keep from getting run over.
Road construction has been an ongoing thing in many parts of Texas the past few years... The worst thing to me is it's only a few miles at a time and takes many years to complete an expansion project as the money isn't there to do it all at one time.
Jim can you freep mail me your email addy. I am having trouble getting freep mail to work for me at the moment..
Thanks.
