We are in this bill doing something very specific about that with the inclusion of the amendment, with the passage of the amendment, to build some barrier along at least 700 miles of our southern border. I hope we continue with that, by the way, along the entire border, to the extent it is feasible, and the northern border we could start next."

So there you have it. Tom Tancredo has done everyone a favor by stating plainly the immigration rejectionists' endgame--turn the United States into the world's largest gated community. The House took a step in that direction this month by passing another immigration "reform" bill heavy with border control and business harassment and light on anything that will work in the real world....

...President Bush has said repeatedly that he'll only sign a comprehensive immigration reform bill; that means creating legal pathways for foreign labor to enter the country and fill jobs Americans simply won't do anymore. Regrettably, the White House, in a sop to the throw-'em-all-out faction, praised the House vote. By voicing no disapproval of these over-the-top provisions, Mr. Bush legitimizes the forces that will make it hard to pass useful reform. And so a highly divisive problem may fester without solution into the next elections. At some point, the president of the United States will have to get behind the Statue of Liberty or Tom Tancredo's wall.

President Bush suggests a practical immigration solution which will allow legal immigration excluding criminals and terrorist and documenting our visitors. The remaining border will more easily be partrolled; with fewer people bypassing legal immigration terrorist, gangsters, and such will more easily be caught.

You can always count on the Wall Street Journal to come through with a radical globalist approach to the subject of national sovereignty.

I wonder how enthusiastic the folks at the WSJ would be about unfettered immigration if I started hiring illegal immigrants to steal copies of their newspapers from people's doorsteps and hack into the WSJ website to get access to their on-line articles that are only available to paid subscribers.

Bush proposes amnesty for scofflaws.
Also, since "legalization" increases the expense of hiring aliens, the demand for illegal aliens will remain.

Build the freakin' wall, then, IF the labor market tightens, look into instituting a guest worker program.

I am disappointed by the article from the WSJ.

I operated a small business in the 80's and we were frequired to check citizenship of all hires even though we were a union shop with people 30 years in the union.

The fine for first offense was $10,000, not a problem, I didn,t hire illegals.

I do not believe there is such a thing as a job americans won't do anymore. They've just been priced and pushed out of many markets. It's almost impossible to go to a fast food place anymore and order from someone who actually speaks english.
