Film’s “nebulous” message too ill-defined to poison your child’s psyche, declares Liz Smith

In todays NY Post, octogenarian gossip frau Liz Smith offers her list of holiday movie recommendations. Some highlights:
- If you want to be ravished by images, glamorous melodrama and the mysterious world of Japanese courtesans, try Rob Marshall's "Memoirs of a Geisha,"
Liz recommends of the film in which young Japanese girls (inexplicably played by young Chinese girls) sell their virginity to the highest bidder. No warning of any nebulous message here.
- If a shattering, cathartic cry is what you're yearning for, ride over to "Brokeback Mountain.
Liz recommends of Hollywoods groundbreaking, anti-marriage, gay cowboys eating pudding movie. No warning of any nebulous message here.
- If you're in the mood for family comedy with an edge and heart "The Family Stone" is right on the mark.
Liz recommends of this seasons black-hearted, blue-state-values, American Beauty style bomb. No warning of any nebulous message here.
- If the matters of yesterday's and today's political world concern you, George Clooney has provided "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "Syriana
Liz opines, of Clooneys double-fisted evil-America offerings. No warning of any nebulous message here.
- Steven Spielberg offers the tense thriller "Munich."
says Liz, of Spielbergs anti-Israel ode to moral relativism and the humanity of islamic terrorists. No warning of any nebulous message here.
- A very unusual parent/adolescent road trip? See "Transamerica," with the great Felicity Huffman - a woman playing a man who is about to become a woman.
I have nothing to add to that, other than noting that there is no warning of any nebulous message there.

Now Im sure you're positively beside yourself with suspense, wondering what movie could have possibly inspired Liz to discuss its alleged underlying agenda before dismissing it as too nebulous to present much of a threat to the minds of the kiddies.
Im sure youre all going to claim you knew it all along, but its Narnia of course!
Something phantasmagoric for the kids? Visit "Narnia." And don't worry that the nebulous "spiritual" message will influence your kids. They won't even notice.
Its scary what the kids might learn out there in the cinema, but its not too scary!

Actually, I did know it all along.

This may help you understand the mentality:
'Narnia represents everything that is most hateful about religion' (The Guardian | 12/5/05 | Polly Toynbee)
"Of all the elements of Christianity, the most repugnant is the notion of the Christ who took our sins upon himself and sacrificed his body in agony to save our souls. Did we ask him to?"
Many critics continue to overlook the greatest story of unrequited love ever written.

If a shattering, cathartic cry is what you're yearning for, ride over to "Brokeback Mountain." If two people are having anal sex, and emitting "shattering, cathartic cries"...they're not doing it right.

Liz Smith is still alive? ... 'cause her career died around 1981. Someone really should tell her.

Curious, sad and pathetic how these people expend so much time and energy staying angry at something they say doesn't exist.....
...more reason I don't believe in the existence of atheists...they may say they don't believe in GOD, but that is simply the mantra they repeat in the hopes they may someday convince themselves. Until then, they harbor an anger because HE does exist, and lash out at anyone or anything that reminds them of that fact....

Since Liz Smith is a godless old dyke, it stands to reason that Memoirs of a Geisha, Brokeback Mountain, The Family Stone and Transamerica would be appealing to her.

JMO, hollyweird and new york, are the superficial ears of America, while fly over country is the real working brain.

A very unusual parent/adolescent road trip? See "Transamerica," with the great Felicity Huffman - a woman playing a man who is about to become a woman. Oh yeah, I'm dying to see that! Hollywood has lost its creative mind, and Sam Goldwyn and Louis B Mayer are spinning in their graves! "If you want to send a message, use Western Union!"

Seriously, when you associate shattering, cathartic cries with a movie about two shepherds bumping uglies, you're just inviting mischief into the conversation.
