I'm curious: Are there ANY FReepers who have EVER watched the Golden Globes? Why?
The what?
Of course there are Freepers that have watched the Golden Globes. I have myself, though not in the latter years.
Why? The entertainment industry was of interest to me at the time. O.D'd on it's excess coupled with increasingly bad films coupled with never ending undisguised Bush bash fest/Christian bash fest/Conservative bash fest killed it and haven't looked back.
I haven't even turned in to watch a couple minutes since prior to the Iraq war and Robbin's "wind" sweeping through the plains comment. TPOTC being blacklisted at the awards shows, except People's Choice obviously, killed these nominations as surely as Arafat and Carter receiving the Nobel peace prize killed that award. They are a joke now.
My wife and I watch too see the imperfections in those people in BRIGHT sunlight(i.e. without perfect lighting & makeup). Also, half of them are drunk and say the most moronic things.
I am with you. Why would normal, conservative, God-fearing people even watch this crap? I have not and will not. I include the Oscars and the rest of Hollywood's back-slapping awards ceremonies in that group also.
I do not think many Oklahoman's will be going to see Brokeback Mountain. That movie is only getting all this hype because of the media.
I am saddened that Heath Ledger played a role in that movie. He is so good-looking and was wonderful in The Patriot with Mel Gibson.
Haven't the ratings gone down the last few years? I won't be watching.
I don't watch awards shows not out of any political sentiment, but mostly because after I passed age 15 or so it was very clear to me how absurd they were. I just find them boring. 'Stars being stars' appeals to the young teen in everyone, but that's about it.
When I was a young sailor, I used to watch golden globes on the beach as often as possible.
I watched them the year Mel Gibson got an award for Braveheart.
I won't lie...I was watching for him (OK, and some of the dresses were really purdy too ;) )
