MISSION U.S. Sen. John Cornyn said Tuesday that building a fence along the southwest border is unrealistic and ultimately would not deter illegal immigration into the United States.
Cornyn, R-Texas, was in Mission on Tuesday to discuss flood control and the Rio Grande Valley levee system, but spoke briefly with the media about immigration issues and his plan to allow workers into the country legally but temporarily. He said he would not support a bill calling for a security fence which could start in California and end in Brownsville although the U.S. House of Representatives approved the measure last week. The Senate will discuss the measure when they reconvene next year, and Cornyn said immigration would be a pertinent issue.
He expects a compromise between the Senate and the House on immigration bills.
"(The wall) is a 19th century solution to a 21st century problem," Cornyn said, calling for a more comprehensive immigration plan. Millions of immigrants, both documented and undocumented, cross daily through the southwest border and Cornyn said his bill permits workers to enter for a set time period, calls for increased enforcement at the border and more investigations into employers that hire illegal immigrants.
Hidalgo Mayor John David Franz said he would oppose any wall cutting through his border city.
"I think we need to be looking at amicable solutions," he said. "(A wall) would put us back 100 years. A wall isnt going to solve anything."
WE NEED A FENCE:
Israel has proven that border fences can be effective. The open borders lobby should stop lying about them
Israel's multiple fence, border fence system. This fence is designed to succeed!! Sensors, surveillance cameras, lots of barbed wire, ditches to stop vehicles from ramming through it, paved access roads for fast armed response etc etc.
"I said NO BILL would be better than what the SENATE and the WH wants!!!"
Okay then I guess the conversation is over. I just don't get how you can say no bill would be better than what the senate and WH wants and then say you want the house bill, which is exactly what the senate and WH don't want.
Guess he wants to pander to the Latino vote.
We need a fence - and few of the other appurtanences which go along with such a defense line to keep these foreign invaders and the Mexican military which apparently aids and abets them, at bay.
This guy needs a mental check up or a morality assessment.
I hope he gets voted out of office one way or the other.
Freeper RINO's to the defense of their leaders in checked pants, tassled loafers, and at the Country Club.
"Republican" is not synonymous with "Conservative".
... So what's a compromise to Cornyn...
Erasing the border completely, forcing you to pay for a total infrastructure rehab through out Mexico, adding sixty million more illiterates to the welfare rolls, and forcing you to pay for the college education of every child in Mexico.

uh but thats not the plan. fence or no fence, a guest worker/amnesty program will happen. sorry to throw cold water on everyone, but nafta sorta seals the deal. hey, america had its chance to vote third party, yet always seems to like the status quo. again, dont blame me, the blame is on all of us. read the nafta language about movements of labor between the usa, canada and the outhouse, oops, i mean mexico. its all there in black and white and signed in all the right places.
Frankly, I have not read the house bill, but it sounds better. However, you know the Senate..rarely do they let something pass the House without putting their handprints all over it...lol. Here is the Cornyn/Kyl bill:

Anyone that says that Cornyn is a Rhino or the worst conservative senator is simply not well informed or worse..a troll.
"If Cornyn is a RINO, then so are 80% of the GOP in congress..."
Most of the other 80% aren't pushing for an amnesty.
After centuries of jailing bank robbers, we still have bank robbers?
Where's the campaign to "decriminalize" bank robbery?
"Cornyn is NO RINO but he's going to feel a lot of heat from Texas' Republicans.
Let the letter writings and telephone calls begin!"
Good idea.
If I were forced to take a choice yes I'd prefer the Kyl/Cornyn plan over McCain's scamnesty. The only problem is if we go with it now we'll never see enforcement, that's just the nature of the beast when it comes to this government and immigration policies. I also think Cornyn knows that very well and is trying to pull the wool over people's eyes.
Just sent Cornyn a note...This is getting crazy...Always remember "Follow the money". In this case right to W and Cornyn's friend's pockets.
lol..I don't spin pal..I am a realist. How are you going to build a fence in the middle of the Rio Grande? What about the trucks that come in loaded with illegals everyday? What about the tunnels they build UNDER the FENCE and into homes on the other side? The fence might work very well for some areas and private property owners along the border should be allowed to build them on their land.
Quisling: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.

I don't think Cornyn is trying to 'pull the wool' over anyone's eyes. He has had many town hall meetings here in Texas about immigration and has been very candid with the folks. I think he is trying to find a balance and walk a tight rope....lol
Troll.
