WASHINGTON - Four years after the U.S. invaded Afghanistan, Taliban and al Qaeda fighters are showing renewed strength, using suicide bombs and rocket-propelled grenades. They are even training the next generation.
Since June 2005, 54 Americans have been killed in Afghanistan, by far the most lethal period since the U.S. invaded.
Behind some of the most deadly attacks is one man, a 35-year-old Afghan who calls himself Commander Ismail.
In his first interviews with Western media, Ismail brags about killing three Navy Seals this summer, then downing a Chinook helicopter that came to rescue them, killing another 16 Americans.
Commander Ismail says ousted Taliban leader Mullah Omar is alive and well and that the Mujahaddin are fighting under his command and control.
NBC News interviewed Ismail in August and again this month.
Ismail boasts that in June, he deliberately laid a trap for American forces.
Ismail: We certainly know that when the American army comes under pressure and they get hit, they will try to help their friends. It is the law of the battlefield.
A tape obtained by NBC News showed what appears to be some of the battle, and the terrorists unsuccessful attempt to coax a Navy Seal to surrender. When the U.S. military sent in a rescue team, Ismails men were waiting with a rocket-propelled grenade, downing the helicopter, and then spreading out recovered weapons and hi-tech equipment. Later, they displayed captured communications equipment and weapons.

I think I'll start watching Al-Jazeera so I can get some balanced news.
No mention of Elvis Bin Laden?
Maybe we did have an RFID tag on the reporter.
Daily replaying of 9/11/01 footage would do it. That's why the MSM stopped showing it.
They wouldn't want the American people to stay angry and support their nation and President you know.
I don't know much about this technology, but would it be possible to conceal a microchip in a news camera? One that would broadcast a signal so its location could be monitored?
One thing I've noticed about these terrorists, they worship t.v. cameras: at some point they have to get in front of one.
How do you know they risked their life to get the interview?
I could say I risked my life to go to work by driving.
It's all propaganda to generate RATINGS! Quit pretending
that the news is there to inform you. It is there to get
you to watch, so they can make money by selling air time
to advertisers. They want you to think their interviewing
some hated guy to give you information...they only want the
ratings...keep turning off the switches, cancel your cables,
satellites. Turn them off!!! Get involved in real people,
throw your TV out...even their educational shows are weak,
you can read one fair book about any subject, and immediately
know 1,000 times more than you can know by watching their
shows...puhleeze...best thing to do is laugh at them...they're
such rating weasels..
If this were true, then why did the President's job approval on Iraq fall so precipitously after the steady stream of MSM bad news/Al Qaeda propaganda reporting over the last two years? More to the point, why did the President's approval numbers rise so dramatically after he went on the "offensive" against the Democrats and the MSM? If you think that disagreeing with you is being "spiteful", maybe you're a tad too sensitive. I can refer you to any number of jihadi websites where you can see all the enemy propaganda (IEDs going off, dead Americans, real sick stuff even the MSM won't show, yet) you could ever want to fantasize about.
SittinYonder, if that's how you see it and see it still, then you need to change your lens prescription!
This whole interview and article was & is designed to elicit sympathy for the "indigenous freedom fighter insurgents" /sarcasm over the "US occupation forces". And then to complete the propoganda, the heroic Ismail even attempted to convince a wounded U.S. Navy Seal to "surrender" before he supposedly blew a helicopter out of the sky. It is complete BullShiite, and the news reporter & NBC mgmt & staff should be shot & hung for treason. How you can profess admiration for this piece of crap is beyond me. All we need to view or be cognizant of in order to know our enemy is to view the beheaded bodies in Iraq and even the beheaded Christian schoolgirls in Indonesia. Let's see when the left-wing/pro-terrorist/anti-American mass media does an interview and article on those atrocities instead of trying to portray TERRORISTS ....again I say TERRORISTS as indigineous freedom fighters. This whole interview was a crock of left-wing BullShiite!
Pawdoggie hit the nail on the head when he said this article was about "Taliban is back with a vengence message, and it very much was U.S military and Bush bashing!" Absolutely the case! Don't give and credence or kudos to the left-wing/pro-terrorist/anti-American hysterical media!
I have noticed that the last several weeks the MSM has been trying to put a bad face on news from Afghanistan. I guess they are doing so well with Iraq considering the elections and all so they had to look elsewhere for bad news. The lefties never quit trying to destroy Bush and the US.
The t.v. camera validates their murders and validates their existence. This tells me two chilling things.
(1). If the media weren't on their side they'd have less reason to fight on.
(2). The media are on their side.
Because it was better to let him peacefully toddle off unaware of the tracking chip they secretely planted on him?
Not that they did; that would violate their journalistic "ethics", but I can dream.
Glad these traitors weren't around in 1941 to fluff ole Adolf.
I agree. I think they should run the footage of the beheadings.
Uncensored.
Let that section of the public and the government see
and hear the leaders of a death-cult salivate while slowly slicing the throat of a fellow American.
And then pretend it didn't happen.
Aw, the truth. It's a wonderful thing. When you can get it.
He surely sees it.
What he said was the exposure of this would end up creating better awareness for the 'uninformed'.
When hearts are turned, minds will follow.
oops. Meant to cc you.
Zeez terrorists, zey are no more.?
