You are what we would have got out of most Democrats in 1975 if we could have administered a truth serum. We were supposedly fighting history in carrying on the Cold War. Nicaragua was falling. The rest of the hemisphere south of the Rio Grande was sure to follow, etc. etc. Look at what a wonderful country East Germany had become: their Olympic medals, their bogus economic statistics, etc.

The only reason that China is prospering now is that communism is dying in China. Sure there are state owned industries, but the trend is towards the free market. The big question is when will political freedom catch up with the economic changes. It may take a while, but I believe that China will become more democratic. The only real "communist" states in the world now are N.Korea and Cuba. Both will not last another decade. Castro will die and so will his revolution, despite Hugo Chavez. N. Korea is starving it people, the new army inductees are so puny due to malnutrition, they won't be able to fight.

I (a WASP native born US American) was in Beijing on 9/11. I noticed a lot more people paying attention to me after the attack. It seemed like they were trying to gauge my emotional state. I talked with lots of locals and nearly all of them felt that the US deserved it. Everyone was very interested in what had happened and there was lots of chit chat about it until about 3 days later when the state run media announced that the US had retaliated. Things calmed down and the whole issue just went away after that. I was surprised how such misinformation could propagate so quickly.

I think most of the hate at the time was due to the recent Hanin island EP3 incident when a PRC fighter jock commited suicide by flying into our spy plane and seriously damaging it.

China needs a new government. Their revolution will happen. The only question is whether or not their old government will participate, and how fast it comes.
