Bikini? No, burqini
Herald Sun ^ | 12/25/2005 | Sue Hewitt

ITSY-BITSY, teeny-weeny bikinis are common -- but now multicultural Australia has head-to-foot "burqinis".

Designer Aheda Zanetti calls the outfit an "Islamic bikini" because it has pants and a top.

She said the costume, marketed under the name Ahiida and available on the internet, covered everything except hands, feet and face.

She said it had a "hijood", named after the traditional hijab. Mother-of-four Adeeba Nabulsi said the outfit allowed her to swim with her children in mixed-sex public pools.

Why does the picture look so much like John K'n Kerry in his bunny suit at NASA??

Same smile, too!

I see NOTHING wrong with wearing modest clothes.

I am just under 5' 2" and weigh about 107 lbs.

One of my neighbors is around 5' 10" and about 245 lbs.

We live 3 blocks from the beach (small lake.

She wears bikinis- I not only wear a one-piece- but I wear a one-piece with a skirt..

She constantly makes fun of me.....another heavy neighbor got mad at ME because her boyfriend (a gross creep loser) told it was a shame to waste my body in my suit.

Finally one day- I looked at all of them and said, "since you seem to enjoy harassing me about being modest, do you mind if I defend myself and offer some advice?"

They ALL three shut up real quick and apologized.

I verbally spank them on any conversation about politics, morality, or religion. they hate it. The one is having an OPEN affair with a married man for over 3 yrs- and the other woman is almost as huge as the other- but her 7 yr old daughter is a stick and only eats hot dogs and ramen noodles, and the guy buys and smokes dope with his teen daughter.

I NEVER say a word until THEY bring this crapt up and try to defend it...

I am amazed at the balls of people to just flaunt immorality and slobbish gluttony- and feel right to harass people TRYING to live a good and right life.

That being said...

My only issue with the burqini is that women not be FORCED to wear one.

I'm opposed to that, as well. I don't support any forced clothing standards at all.

I just find it interesting that so many folks comment on things like modest clothing on the part of Muslims, when there are plenty of folks in this country who want modesty here, as well.

Some denominations of Christianity do "force" such clothing on their adherents. That's their option, of course, and those who don't like it can leave the denomination, I guess.

Of course, there are the leering folks, who want all young, attractive women to be almost naked, and all older, less striking women to hide. That, to me, is far worse.

OTOH, in a few decades, they'll all be old farts with beer bellies, so it all comes around.

No, but He did give us common sense and the ability to know that too much of anything is not good for you. Stay out in the sun too long and you get cancer. Eat too much food and you get fat. You get the idea...

"Sure, no problem. Mennonites and Amish. You aren't going to see any immodest swimming garb on any of their teens, I guarantee."

Fair enough. But the Amish wear the clothes they do to show their separation from the world. It is the same reason they don't use electricity or drive cars. It has more to do with culture than religion. And when you hear of any members from one of those very private and unassuming cultures demanding that the rest of the world follow their traditions "or else", let me know. I don't recall ever reading accounts of anyone having their ankles beat with sticks wielded by Amish grandmothers seeking to enforce Amish tradition.

"I'm sure those teens are skinny-dipping in the swimming hole, just like other kids, but that's another matter."

I would bet that you are probably right.

LOL!

I certainly believe in some standard of dress...

nude beaches are fine- but not ALL beaches should be exposed to it. Heck they can have "family beaches" I don't care-

if you want to be naked or half-naked- so be it- but not just ANYWHERE.... I am trying to raise a 16 yr old son...just wlking into his school makes me feel like I am on the set of a rap video...ridiculous...how can a boy learn a smitten of anything while staring at cleavidge, thighs, and bellies..I'm amazed these boys can read at all! LOL!

Huh. That's odd. I thought your deity created everything. That would include melanomas. Lots of calls in the Bible for people to dress modestly, as I remember.

Some could argue, that the necessity of covering up the body while bathing, shouldn't be restricted just to females.

And not just while bathing....

Well, I think that woman should definitely wear that outfit. Nothing less will do, thankyouverymuch.

Whoa! Not me. I'm a 60 year old man. Going naked or even half-naked is not going to happen for me. I'd hate to scare all the small children!

My only concern is how soon will we be hearing the call for all women to wear modest clothing as not to OFFEND the Islamic sensibilities.

Hopefully, when that happens every woman in the US, except my daughter, my wife, my sisters, my mother, my fat neighbor lady and women over 40, will get buck nekked in protest.

We can condemn Islam for many things. Condemning them for wanting modest clothing doesn't appear to me to be one of them.

You are completely missing the point. This is not about "wanting modest clothing." This is about forcing and demanding that everyone dress according to a deranged savage's idea of needing outside help to control his psychopathic impulses, or else be subject to rape with impunity by barbarians.

These women can dress any way they want to at the beach. When I was growing up a country boy, I used to see Amish girls dressed this way to go swimming at the old swimming hole. Nobody commented, teased, or snickered...it was just their way. But Amish men didn't use skimpier dress as an excuse to go and rape yankee women. Of course, they were civilized Christians not perverted pagans.
