NEW BEDFORD -- The UMass Dartmouth student who claimed to have been visited by Homeland Security agents over his request for "The Little Red Book" by Mao Zedong has admitted to making up the entire story. The 22-year-old student tearfully admitted he made the story up to his history professor, Dr. Brian Glyn Williams, and his parents, after being confronted with the inconsistencies in his account. Had the student stuck to his original story, it might never have been proved false. But on Thursday, when the student told his tale in the office of UMass Dartmouth professor Dr. Robert Pontbriand to Dr. Williams, Dr. Pontbriand, university spokesman John Hoey and The Standard-Times, the student added new details.

Posted by John Jorsett On News/Activism 12/23/2005 4:41:51 PM CST · 32 replies · 678+ views American Library Association ^ A senior at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth says he was visited at his parents home by two agents of the Department of Homeland Security who were investigating why he had requested a book by former Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong through interlibrary loan. The student, who has asked university officials to shield his identity, told two UMD history professors that the incident took place in late October or early November after he attempted to obtain a copy of the first English edition of the Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung, published in Beijing in 1966 and popularly known in... |
Yikes..another school not to send your children to?
Aw heck, Yankees have been lying to the rest of the country for YEARS about a LOT of subjects.
Interestingly enough, Mao was a big gummint supporting, morality legislating liar too. He sort of reminds me of some of the "compassionate conservatives" I have met recently who can't seem to find enough reasons to expand the powers and reach of "law" enforcement under the age old cry of the tyrants, which is "Public safety".
Can't even be man enough to simply admit he got taken in, he comes up with a lame spin that even an 8 year old would snicker at. Shame on you, professor!
Dr. Williams said yesterday. "I spent the last five days avoiding work, and the international media, and rest, trying to get names and dates and facts.
Much more important than teaching, I guess.

By 1999, the cold war long over, it should have been shrinking. Instead, it was expanding vastly.
9-11 Taught those idiots NOTHING. You could almost make that statement without sounding like a complete fool if you had said it on September 10, 2001. But in 2005? Let the left keep talking ... it only helps us.
Geee...since I, and quite a few other Freepers, live on the other side of the world and in vastly different time zones, this is the first time I've seen this post. Which as you point out...Has already been posted.
Hey, cut him some slack, he's right about that part, at least. It was part of the Klintoons strategy to replace agents on the ground with worldwide, universal electronic eavesdropping.

The student should be expelled post haste, and then sued for costs incurred by investigators.I'm not holding my breath.
Oh, a fan of the Little Red Book I see.
His spokesperson says even though the report may be false the accusation is still accurate!
Hummmm, where'd they learn that?
You mean Karl used the Ultra Secret Spooky Late Night Mind Control Machine on another hapless liberal student in the Nor'east? Bad Karl. BAD BAD Karl.
