Did Ted Stevens RESIGN from the Senate?
http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getpage.cgi?position=all&page=S14240&dbname=2005_record ^ | 21 December 2005 | US SENTATE

S14240 December 21, 2005 Did you see that? Did you see how it devastated the land, and all the plant life is now dying because it was inundated in saltwater? The earthquake in my State did that. I saw one town disappear. I saw a third of my city, Anchorage, disappear. You have to have had that experience to understand how I felt when I went to New Orleans.

You people didn’t believe it. Many of you said I did this for political reasons, just a crass thing, pick up some money and give it away for votes. I never asked one of you for a vote. I talked to some of you about how you should vote, but I never went to you and said: You have to vote for me. You wouldn’t be voting for me; it was voting for the people who would have been helped. This has been the saddest day of my life. It is a day I don’t want to remember, and I am sorry to see it come to an end. Because I am drawing the line now with a lot of people I have worked with before. I really am. I can’t put in my mind the amount of time, the days I have spent with you working on your problems, and to know you said about me the things you said in the last 2 months. I say goodbye to the Senate tonight. Thank you very much. Mrs. BOXER. I move to reconsider the vote. Mrs. FEINSTEIN. I move to lay that motion on the table. The motion to lay on the table was agreed to. N O T I C E Incomplete record of Senate proceedings. He threatens to every time he doesn't get what he wants. In the case of ANWR, I am with him 100%. He also cried and whined about his bridge to nowhere being cited as a ridiculous example of pork. It seems to be his m/o to cry and threaten to resign. Somehow, I think his threats are empty, but hey, ya never know..

I thought his choice of words were pretty strong... I wonder what the 7 that were absent have to say...

He threatened to resign in rather melodramatic fashion when his bridge to nowhere got the ax a couple weeks ago...instead, the money got allocated without the earmark for the bridges to nowhere

Resignation (quitting) is such a lame protest. Like not gracing someone with your presence is such a loss.

One should at least stay for spite's sake and be the lingering thorn in peoples' sides...

I saw his speech. He was very upset that the provision was voted down..he basically said that he has helped everyone else out and they did not return the favor. He "threatened" to go to every state and tell the people what "you have done". He ended his fit by saying that he was going home to "think about what has happened, I say goodbye to the Senate"..something like that.
I guess one could take from that he was sort of threatening to retire, I took it a a "heat of the moment" outburst, I doubt he will retire, but maybe he will.

He seems to me like one of those people that make a big deal out of leaving an online forum because of something they disagree with only to come back 2 weeks later, making a spectacle out of both non-events.

I hope he follows through on some of the things he said about ANWR though.

Damn baby loses a vote, and cries then threatens to quit - LET HIM!

Murkowski can appoint his daughter.

Stevens is such a whiner it's unbelievable he is actually a United States Senator. Waah, waaaah, waaah, you cancelled my pork, I'm going to go home! And I suppose if he resigns there will just be another Murkowski dug up to replace him. The Senate is so depressing compared to the House.

He was steamed, to be honest with you, I thought it was kind of lame. He has every right to be upset, but he looked childish" I didn't get my way so I'm taking my bat and ball and going home".
I can understand his frustration and all, but he hardly came across as a Churchill type figure,LOL

ANWR is fine. His last retirement threat was over the Bridge to Nowhere. Threats to resign are apparently his method of gracefully accepting defeat.

"ANWR is pork?"

The bridge was considered by many to be a "pork barrel project", not ANWR.
