22 Congressmen Hate Christmas
This year's "War for Christmas" keeping "Christ" in the holiday has apparently been won. And, like many "wars," there has even been a Congressional resolution in support of keeping Christmas alive and well.
On December 15 the House of Representatives passed a resolution "protecting the symbols and traditions of Christmas" by an overwhelming 401-22 vote.
Representative JoAnn Davis (R-VA), the resolution's sponsor, said the resolution was necessary to counter "political correctness run amok."
"No one," she said, "should feel like they have done something wrong by wishing someone a Merry Christmas."
Twenty-two Democrats played Scrooge and disagreed.
Representative Robert Scott (D-VA) said Republicans were more concerned with the symbolism rather than the substance of Christmas referring to Republican passage of a bill to slow the rate of growth in federal entitlement programs. Davis lodged a preemptive response to critics who might question the constitutionality of her resolution.
"Celebrating Christmas is not a violation of separation of church and state," she said. "The Framers intended that the First Amendment to the Constitution would prohibit the establishment of religion, not prohibit any mention of religion or reference to God in civic dialogue."
The text of the resolution read as follows:
Whereas Christmas is a national holiday celebrated on December 25; and
Whereas the Framers intended that the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States would prohibit the establishment of religion, not prohibit any mention of religion or reference to God in civic dialog: Now, therefore be it resolved, that the House of Representatives
(1) Recognizes the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas;
(2) Strongly disapproves of attempts to ban references to Christmas; and
(3) Expresses support for the use of these symbols and traditions, for those who celebrate Christmas.
Of course. What was I thinking. You are right. They hate Christmas. Couldn't have been any one of the reasons I listed. Nor any others, for that matter. I bow to your superior reasoning skills.
It is not the retailers, it is the crybaby, we will sue you bunch of lefty loonies, that force the PC agenda - tell me that your not that stupid to think other wise.
It's not the administration that bothers me on this issue. It's the fact that many conservatives are merging their politics and religion, and using Christmas as a front in a political battle. It's unseemly to me. As someone posted on another thread, many Christians seem to walking around with a bunch of chips on their shoulders, just hoping and waiting for someone to knock it off. Sad, really.
I feel for you - I lived there at one time as well - simple solution move or take a stand your city is ruled by nut balls.
Merry Christmas back at you
I live in the Bay Area- Merry Christmas To You.
LOL. It's wonderful to see that the War on Christmas hasn't interfered with the Christmas spirit in any way, shape, or form. Peace on earth, good will to men. Merry Christmas, sir. Here's hoping you never have to experience "the big one".
Kudos to Ms. Davis!

Gosh, what a shocking revelation to behold....
Of course they do, for it's not political expedient to their cause to not hate it.
Oh, that's down right mean! ; )
A misdirected lost soul.....
As one of the gutless, Schwartz represents Pa., what states do Holt, Israel, Lowey, and Owens represent?
Major Owens D-NY of the sharks still looking for the 200 million slaves drowned fame.
Stuff it !!!!
"Merry Christmas and God Bless America".
I believe they call that a two-fer.
Don't think we are having turkey this year. However, the stockings are already hung by the chimney (with great care, of course) and will be stuffed later. Merry Christmas.
Yeah? Who was the last person you know who was sued for saying "Merry Christmas?" You're being silly --- this has got to be the lamest persecution claim ever. And the fact that the United States Congress is spending its valuable time on this, instead of, I don't know, winning the war on terror is completely ludicrous.
Sounds like you fit right in
No less than a couple dozen school districts for starters, but your right it is silly - business's have every right to have a happy Holiday policy and shoppers have every right to shop else where.
He's my @#&!!@*&# rep. Had a very corrupt city hall when he was mayor of KC. When asked about any ongoing scandal he never knew anything about it but would "look into it". Liberal weasel.
