Liberals, Conservatives, Moderates, it's a special time, can we find a little peace?

I have been wanting to do this for quite some time. Somewhere deep inside I believe that there can be a bit of common ground between the Left side of the political spectrum, and the Right. Why would we want this, assuming of course that there is someone other than me that would like to see that happen. I believe that there are many things about our wonderful nation that we share that could serve as a starting point to start a healing between us.

I think we should try it, if only for the sacrifice so many have made to afford us this opportunity. If I am right, I'll bet there are some things, more than we imagine, that we have in common, and given a real chance we may find them..

If we can at least agree that we as a nation, have been slowly dividing culturally for quite some time. Perhaps we can even go a bit further, I think our society is sick, and it can use threatening to become truly polarized, to the point of permanent harm to the very fabric of our being..

Help me make a list of those things that make us a country that is united..

Please I am serious, list anything that you can, that you believe you agree  would be a compromise on your part for the good of our nation..

Moderator, please give us a bit of latitude, and maybe we can start a dialogue that will benefit all.. Merry ()

I'll start..
1) As much as it would burn my butt, I believe I could live with Gay Marriage if the Gay community could stop the Gay agenda, infiltration into our public schools, and private businesses.. You know what I mean.. I.E.: School, Diversity training, Gay-Straight, and tolerance BS.. and Boy Scouts, Salivation Army.. etc., I don't want to count the number of right wing conservatives in the offices of the ACLU. You don't want the 10 commandants being taught or a class on religious freedom, and creation, I say we both back down, and teach our own kids..

2) I don't like being told that I can't have religious symbols in the marketplace, but can we agree that any private business should be able to display any religious display it wishes without litigious reprisals? If the anyone in the public hates it, they could avoid that business as they wish..

3) I could live with abortion in cases of forcible rape, and the life of the mother or the baby, and even financial crises.. I am an adoptive parent, and I really can't think of a way to justify giving birth to every baby without a plan to care for it with love and security until maturity..

4) I believe there are still reminisces of sick racial prejudice in pockets of our society but I also believe affirmative action is insidious and cruel in main. I would agree to the harshest of penalty if anyone is caught withholding a job or position simply because of a persons race.. But I must say that I have no idea how to prove a case.. I have seen it happen on both sides and I wanted to scream, perhaps I will the next time, and maybe that is a start..

developing..

"We came to this place, because Free Republic was our last, best hope for peace. By the end of 2001, we knew that it had failed. But in so doing it became something greater. As the war expanded, it became our last, best hope for victory, because sometimes peace is another word for surrender."

So true.. and so sad, but FR offers a true cause for hope.. Thank you .. HUGGGG Merry Christmas

I came to realize that they were either dishonest or fools (sorry, no nice way to put it).

It sure seems that way, but I have to believe that commonsense tells me that there are many that are reachable, just as there are many in our own stable that cannot be reached or reasoned with, there are many Democrats that hate this dilemma as much as us..

My (3) Koi ponds are as safe from attack as an Aircraft carrier. I've got motion sensored sprinklers (Scarecrow) guarding each pond from every direction. Every now and then, a neighborhood cat will forget, and I will see it darting back across the street soaking wet and terrified. All I have to do is change batteries every two weeks.

I don't know what your second comment refers to.

I'm not pretending anything. Some idiots wrote down their goals for a few million people. So what. I said it was lazy to fight the "agenda." What is intellectually honest is to take the issues and respond to them individually rather than hold back the rights of million because of some radicals. I said their's a difference between advocationg marriage between adults and sex curriculuum for 5th graders and NAMBLA.

I said that it is unamerican to deny others liberty, pursuit of happeness, and equal access to government.

If that's pretending. so be it.

I think we're tapped out unless you want to do a Bugs Bunny-Elmer Fudd exchange.

I don't know what your second comment refers to.

No, but of course an Enabler won't see how a group brings the baggage of "hate crimes" with it.

Dear Carlo,

I'm an atheist, but Christmas is still the time to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, so I will observe it by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas not a Happy Generic holiday. Carols are traditional and so are nativity scenes. They are a part of Christmas.

I'm pro-choice, and that view encompasses not only abortion, or adoption, but the power to not allow an unwanted pregnancy which is perhaps the best choice of all for those so inclined.

Lastly, I'm a citizen. I was born here and so was my daughter. I don't mind paying taxes and I make sure I go to the polls. I support the war effort and applaud the continuation of the Patriot Act. I don't condone free healthcare for illegal aliens nor a college education for them when our tax dollars are used...especially since we can't even get a subsidy on the government school loans we take out.

I think that this great country offers so much liberty to so many. We should all be able to follow our own path as long as it is a legitimate one and one that inflicts no hardships on our fellow citizens.

Having said that, I wish you a very healthy and Merry Christmas and hope that the life Jesus lived will serve to remind us that peace and brothership is all within our power.
Much love,
Stanz

WE are not discussing a group, maybe you are. I am discussing individual taxpaying, adult american citizens. If we lump people into groups, I'd have the misfortune of some idiot puting me in the same group as you.

In the spirit of Christmas, I will refrain from commenting about Liberals, gay marriage, etc.

Merry Christmas, Carlo.

We cannot afford to "give in" or compromise anymore... So, no. I am not willing to compromise on anything again. Period. No more Spectors...SchwarzenKennedys...McStains...Chaffees...Bushies...no more having to twist my beliefs in order to allow my enemies a win.

Isn't it so much bigger than those morons.. isn't our nation's future a little bit more than petty politics and who will win this or that issue.. LISTEN, if we don't find some common threads to hold us together, we will unravel and fall apart..

Don't fall for that lie, Carlos. "Where there's Life, there's hope."

If there is hope with all life, which I believe in BTW, give me your answer to the UNWANTED CHILDREN catastrophe.. please share your thoughts on how to alleviate the hopelessness felt by millions of lost souls currently held in dead-end existences that others of your belief systems didn't see any problems years ago..

Believe me, I am not trying to goat you, I am talking about the babies that you are fighting for.. that were brought into this world unloved to prove some lost point..

When you vote that homos cannot marry, you are denying them the pursuit of the same happeness you yourself pursued.

When you vote that murderers cannot commit murder, you are denying them the pursuit of the same happeness(sic) you yourself pursued.

I think two guys getting married is clearly analogous to murder. Thanx for squaring everyone away.

But seriously, thanx for making the poiint I made earlier about the ignorance we see here on this issue.

Yes, we are talking about a particular group. Actually, you're the one who was, and I responded to you concerning it.

I'll agree, however, that it's pointless to waste a Holiday in trying to debate with someone who can't see the correlation between a group given elevated status over others, and the encroaching Orwellian nightmare because of them.

Good day.

There is no elevation when someone wants to be treated equally, unless it is the elevation from second class to full citizenship.

Good evening.
