Newton said many celebrities have been wary of going because they think it might be seen that they are endorsing the war.

In other words, they can't go entertain the troops because they don't like the President. Nice.

a Christian hip-hop group, a country singer you have probably never heard of and two cheerleaders for the Dallas Cowboys.

And these entertainers are Not Celebrity enough?

Not Patriotic enough?

Not talented enough?

Read the book "RED Star over Hollywood" and you'll understand it all starting way back before WWI and all the way through.

The Guardian wouldn't know the truth if it walked up and bit them in the @ss. Stalin apologists - lowest of the low.

"Just as the seemingly intractable nature of the war has led to a growing recruitment crisis...."

Lie. All services met their recruiting goals this year, and the numbers are getting better, not worse.

In Iraq and Afghanistan, reenlistments are far ahead of the goals, some units near 140%.

The USO shows I see seem to be well attended and the soldiers seem to be having a good time.

The goal of the rabbidly defeatist Guardian is to undermine the war effort in any way possible. Wayne Newton who has done great things for the troops and the USO should have known that the Guardian wouldnt be after a story if they didnt think they could make the USA look bad with it.

When will they realize that is because of the freedom that is fought for by our young men and women they are allowed to indulge themselves in their craft.....the very regime's that the Hollywood sect embraces would not allow them to produce the smut they call movies/entertainment
Thanks for the rant...

But the comedian said he mostly tries to keep politics out of the show after he did a few jokes about Bush's brainpower at a base in 2003 and got a chilly reception.

Duh!

It just might be that our troops don't want to be entertained by those who are rooting for the other side to win.

I miss Bob Hope.

My suspicion is they're deathly afraid biting the leftist hand that feeds them $20M paychecks for making those really swell movies & "music" they're grinding out these days.

Unfortunately, i think the Guardian is on the money
with this one. Most of the present day "stars" are
worthless cowards, who have not one shred pf loyalty
to *anything* other than what's between their legs...
much less their own country, which provided them with
everything they have.

Maybe it's just because (a.) they're lazy and (b.) afraid they'll get their cowardly butts shot off. As someone said, things are certainly different today.

But as far as whether opposition to the war or to President Bush has anything to do with it, I just finished a book I'd highly recommend called "Rednecks vs. Bluenecks." It's about the left vs. right, liberal vs. conservative battle in country music, sort of starting out and centering around the Dixie Chicks mess, then going into a historical perspective of politics in country music and then talking to a whole bunch of liberals and a whole bunch of conservatives in the business. They also talked to one guy in particular ... Buddy Miller, a great singer/player/songwriter ... who swore that he was absolutely dead-center in the middle, and had a separate chapter on Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash, who always sent out different signals and can't be pigeonholed politically.

Anyway, one of the people they talked to on the liberal side was Raul Malo of the Mavericks. The political stuff he spewed out would be worth a "puke alert" on this site, he was so over the top that he was rivaling Steve Earle, whose Marxist diatribes for the author were in a class of their own.

Still, Mr. Malo went to Iraq to entertain the troops last Christmas, said he was happy and honored to do so even though he is vehemently opposed to the war, and while he was there he didn't mention politics. So while his personal beliefs are nauseating, I give him credit for going over there.
