Michael Bruno's life story was uncomplicated: He was an immigrant who worked hard, spoke his mind and succumbed to cancer two years ago at 75.
"Typical Italian cab driver,'' recalled his son, Vito. "He had an opinion about everything.''
But a recent investigation has uncovered a ghoulish side to Bruno's death. Authorities believe his body and those of hundreds of other people -- including famed British broadcaster Alistair Cooke -- were secretly carved up in the back rooms of several funeral parlors citywide to remove human bone, skin and tendons without their families' permission. Authorities allege the body parts were then sold for a profit.
Worse, health officials fear some of the stolen body parts were diseased, and could infect patients who received them in skin grafts, dental implants or other orthopedic procedures -- a risk concealed by paperwork doctored with forged signatures and false information.
"It's not just disrespectful to my father,'' said Vito Bruno, who has sued one of the funeral homes. "It's an absolutely hideous crime against other people.''

Sounds like a new set of sequels for Robin Cook's Coma.
Ghouls!
Awful is putting it mildly.
Question is, why aren't the funeral parlors named? This is disgraceful.
ick
This is somehting out of a sci-fi novel (Organjackers, Gil the ARM, etc)
When will parts start to disappear from hospital?
Been there, done that.
GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP-Three Atlantic County residents who received bone transplants using tissue thought to be illegally harvested from corpses at New York funeral homes have tested positive for hepatitis and syphilis.
Patrick D'Arcy, an attorney with the D'Arcy Law Firm in Galloway, confirmed Thursday that the three patients underwent operations at Shore Memorial Hospital and they believe they were infected with the diseases as a result of the recent bone- and tissue-theft scandal.
Here is the link to the story. Sounds like they are somehow related to me.

Make that, they sound like the two stories are related, to me.
Guess the harvesting isn't just for fetuses. But at least that thread will give you the idea of the market value.

One named in that thread: Daniel George & Sons Funeral Home
Good to see he's keeping in shape. Must be on the Atkin's diet.
I just now noticed what you are talking about.
Ouch.
