N.Y., Mass., R.I. lose population as rest of the nation grows

BOSTON New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island were the only states to lose population from 2004 to 2005.

The U-S Census reports that New York lost 26-thousand residents, a tenth-of-a-percent decrease. Massachusetts also had a tenth-of-a-percent decline, losing 8-thousand. Rhode Island lost about 3-thousand, or three-tenths of a percent.

Experts attribute the trend to soaring housing costs, a stagnant job market and the arrival of fewer immigrants.

Most of the states with the largest population growth are in the South and West. Nevada, with an estimated population increase of 3-point-5 percent, was the fastest growing state for the 19th consecutive year, followed by Arizona, Idaho, Florida and Utah.

The nation's population increased by 2-point-8 (m) million, or point-9 percent, to 296 (m) million.

I cannot recall where I read it, so no link, but I did read some projections several months ago which strongly suggested that this state is in line to lost 2 House seats in the next decade.

We can only hope, but we shall see what happens.

Oh, and I think that you are right about Vermonters. Gosh I was behind a car from there a while back, and the bumper stickers were unbelievable. That state is definitely gone over to the dark side.

Well then WELCOME friends! Listen, our little "hick" town has about 2,000 pop., about 45 miles from SA, TX where there are bright lights and more crime if one needs to get away a bit.

We love living here, we stay out of our neighbor's way and get along but we look after one another as well, we KNOW our neighbors. It's quiet and peaceful although there was a murder in the late 60s and a shoot-out at a local cantina in the 80s that ended with one killed, that's the last deadly gunplay I remember (I was in LE at the time).

The murderer was caught and is still serving his life sentence (we usually really meant LIFE here...), the pistolero got away to Mexico, we're still waiting for him to come back--we know him and plan to get him. We don't want to extradite him because you have to not impose the death penalty, so we'll wait 'til he comes back on his own, that way we can send him to death row. The victim's family is waiting too...

We got rid of the cantina after that, if they can't behave then they're outta business.

This why the Great Lakes states are so eager to have a water compact in place before the next census. We don't want the people who are buggering off to Texas, Nevada and Arizona trying take the water with them. Sorry, folks, no pipeline. This native Michigander says: if you can't stand the winters, you can't drink the water.

I wonder if leaving is the answer. By moving out of these states we abandon them to the socialists.

We have already lost the New England states, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and the western states of Washington, Oregon and California to communism.

Most large population centers such as Chicagoland, LA, San Francisco-Oakland, Detroit, the Philadelphia-Baltimore-Washington Corridor, have also been lost to communism.

In the meantime over 30 million illegal aliens (10 percent of the total population) have infiltrated every city town and village in America with their have-not culture ready made for socialism.

Is this the way the U. S. will be taken over?

These states need more give-away programs to attract the illegal aliens.

You let that person into your house? Why?............

Had to - new construction - needed to get the Cert of Occupancy, otherwise all hell breaks loose!

If you go to polidata.org you can look under apportion maps to see MA losing 1 seat. Another article I dl said the same thing. Only "big" states lose 2 or more seats per census like PA, NY, OH. It's not that they are losing people usually, it's because their population growth rate is smaller than other states.

Polidata.org has just put up its' 2005 estimate and still has Massachusetts losing 1. IIRC MA will not even lose another seat come 2020 )-:

....Mormon birthrate in Utah?...

Nope, even with the polygs figured in, our population here is being driven up by (the smarter) Californians punching out with their massive home equity, and buying fancy digs, mostly around St. George, but a bit around SLC as well.

We know. We did it do.

I'm not surprised this is happening. My husband and I relocated to my home state of Florida (from Boston) shortly after we got married five years ago.

Boston was a great city to live in when we were childless and single, but when we wanted to buy a house and raise a family, it was a no-brainer.

Another interesting side effect was that shortly after moving here, my husband found himself in an unexpected career change that has afforded him more opportunities than he had in Boston.

We miss some of the people, and our weird, eclectic crowd of art-school comic book geek/Gen Xers, but we wouldn't go back up north for anything.

You are assuming that population growth of conservatives is the same as the increase in the spread of conservatism.

It doesn't work that way.

When forcefully expressed and implemented, ideas can change nations IN SPITE of what a majority of people in an area believe.

Ronald Reagan believed this, and I do too.

These states will bleed productive citizens until only parasitic democrats dominate. Actually they already do.

Your first point about moving out...Yes it does help. A conservative vote is not only wasted in New York, it adds to New York's electoral votes as well. It would be great if all the republican voters in New York and Massachusetts left and went to Florida and Ohio where their votes are needed with the side benefit of decreasing NY and MA's electoral votes.

Second, Wisconsin is trending republican. I'm hoping the pubs can defeat doyle next year and hold the state congress so they can pass voter ID and hopefully clamp down on rat cheating which may be enough to flip WI from blue to red in 08. Also would be good to totally control redistricting in 2011 and possibly change the congressional 4-4 split to 5-3 for the pubs and solidify pub control of the state legislatures.

Lot of New Yorkers and Californians are moving to New Mexico. Rio Rancho (northwest suburb of Albuquerque) seems to be almost entirely made of New Yorkers any more. Property values all over the State have sky-rocketed.
