'Sir' Elton's gay partner is no 'Lady'! Washington | December 23, 2005 7:11:25 PM IST
Sir Elton John and his longtime partner David Furnish may have finally united in a civil ceremony on Dec 21, but the latter will not be referred to as a Lady, even though his partner is a Knight, according to etiquette authority Debrett's.
In Britain, it is customary for wives of knights of the realm to take the title of Lady in place of Mrs, but the rule will not extend to gay civil unions, which became legal in the UK this week.
"Even though they are married, people should still address him as Mr David Furnish," a spokesman for Debrett's, publishers of Peerage And Baronetage was quoted by Contactmusic,as saying.
Meanwhile Elton's close pal Liz Hurley was the cynosure of all eyes at the reception ceremony of the couple, in her flowing white dress with a matching fur stole complemented by drop arrings and a sparkling diamond necklace. (ANI)
I'm tired.
As long as your Remington is handy, though, take the shot.
If this was happening in the U.S., I am sure the ACLU would be fighting for his right to be Lady David John...
A squire peg in a round hole?
Uh! I saw that on the news the other night. My wife looked at me and said "you're homophobic"! I had no ready answer.
Of course, you can't call him "Lady" since he is a queen.
Where's that poster who thought Elton was so great at the CMA? Why are they constantly seeking to feminize everything?
LOL!!!!!!!(SLAP)............
where's Bernie Taupin when I need him?
Thanks! I guess that it is evident I have not read Hamlet.
Things that go bump in the knight?
Your jousting, right?...............Once a Knight is not enough, etc......
Have to ask Kofi about that. According to Kofi's ridiculous rant of yesterday via the MSM, he is the arbiture of what is "Cheeky".
"Once Upon a Mid-Knight . . . (queer?)
OH, Holey Knight?............
LOL Man that's bad but too funny.
Will it be a long marriage or a "One Knight Stand"?...........
Ugh! One wears the Knighties and the other wears the Fruit of the Looms.
Clinton sent in the video for the nuptials. Shouldn't he be the cheeky designator as well?
LOL - You owe me a new keyboard!
