If you'd like to be on or off this middle east/political ping list, please FR mail me.
Articles on Israel can also be found by clicking the keyword Israel.---------------------------
I'm sure someone on the list will be able to help me, but I believe the concept of a single Weinukkah, todays Christmakuh or whatever muck you want, dates to early 20th century attempts at multicuralism in Germany. Didn't work.

In fact, Chrismukkah created enough of a stir last year that the independent Catholic League and the New York Board of Rabbis issued a joint statement condemning it as shameful plagiarism and an insult to both Christians and Jews. The two groups will likely issue another statement this year.Inter-religious cooperation in the best sense of the word!

Inter-religious cooperation in the best sense of the word!Yeah, but I bet no one listened, at least among the mukkahs.

Last time I checked, Hannukah was the Redidcation of the Temple after it was purged of pagan worship and items. To bring in elements of another religion is ironic and tasteless.

I suspect Christmakku is rooted in the 4th or 5th commandment.

I walked into my local market a few days ago and said "Merry Holiday" to the checker in front of several others. All had a nice laugh.

This isnt a tit for tat.
The Menorah = the Nativity.
The Dreidel = the Christmas tree.

You're absolutely right, but a federal judge in the late 80s ruled differently, and has been upheld, a ruling which should offend all Jews.

So is Chrismukkah nothing more than a made-for-TV, faddish, one-size-fits-all holiday that will fade from memory faster than Cabbage Patch Kids and Tickle-Me-Elmo? Not only competing with traditional Christmas and Chanukah, but with Ramahanukwanzmas and Festivus.

To heck with activist judges who eviserate religion. My New Year's resolution will be to confront them on every ruling, past and present. Darned leftists!

To bring in elements of another religion is ironic and tasteless.Unfortunately, most people (especially in America) think it's a celebration of the absolute right to worship any "gxd" one chooses. Irony cubed.

"You Don't Own Me" (Lyrics)
Performed by Leslie Gore
Written by John Madara and David White
You don't own me, I'm not just one of your many toys
You don't own me, don't say I can't go with other boys
And don't tell me what to do
And don't tell me what to say
And please, when I go out with you
Don't put me on display, 'cause
You don't own me, don't try to change me in any way
You don't own me, don't tie me down 'cause I'd never stay
Oh, I don't tell you what to say
I don't tell you what to do
So just let me be myself
That's all I ask of you
I'm young and I love to be young
I'm free and I love to be free
To live my life the way I want
To say and do whatever I please
A-a-a-nd don't tell me what to do
Oh-h-h-h don't tell me what to say
And please, when I go out with you
Don't put me on display
I don't tell you what to say
Oh-h-h-h don't tell you what to do
So just let me be myself
That's all I ask of you
I'm young and I love to be young
I'm free and I love to be free
To live my life the way I want

My point, BTW, is that in my opinion, couples would be happier in the long run, if both halves of each went one way or the other. In other words, maybe some spouses should change.
For some of us, our lives are journeys of change.
