Russians Observe Stalin's 126th Birthday

MOSCOW (AP) - Residents of a southern Russian town unveiled a statue Wednesday to Josef Stalin, as Communists and others marked the 126th anniversary of the late Soviet dictator's birth.
More three dozen residents of Digora, in the Caucasus region of North Ossetia, laid carnations at the gold bust topping a granite obelisk, while children in Soviet-style red kerchiefs saluted.
``Under Stalin, every year we waited for improvements and every year there were improvements. It's a fact,'' sculptor Mikhail Dzboyev said in televised comments.
In Moscow's Red Square, several dozen people carrying red flags bearing the face of Soviet founder Vladimir Lenin braved wintry weather to visit Stalin's grave.
In the Georgian town of Gori, where Stalin was born, people gathered to toast the Soviet leader.
A growing number of Russian towns in recent years have considered erecting monuments to Stalin, a controversial issue for many Russians who say the dictator was responsible for the deaths of millions of his own people.
Others revere him for the Soviet Union's rapid industrialization and his leadership against Nazi Germany during World War II.
Yup. First they had slit trenches, then outhouses and then indoor plumbing.

Yep. Every year there were improvements. That's the logical outcome when you kill a lot of people and distribute their wealth among the survivors. I prefer the Western Model of economic Improvement myself.
What did they do? Beat a old peasant for an hour then send her to a gulag?
Erecting statues of Stalin in Russia would be a lot like erecting statues of Hitler in Germany.
A bad idea.
The only true way to honor Stalin is to starve out some villages then put the survivors in concentration camps above the Artic circle.

One of the most prolific mass murderers in history (probably second only to Mao). His "leadership" in WWII was one of the primary causes of that conflict (Hitler/Stalin non-aggression pact). His purges of the army in the thirties coupled with his lack of preparation for the German attack (he refused to believe it would happen) led to the deaths of millions of Russians and the devastation of the nation. He was a paranoid and a fool and one of the very worst "leaders" to ever plague mankind.
This is the equivalent of Germany unveiling a statue of Adolf Hilter on his birthday.
