A sister abducted another sister?
Probably jealous of her name.

Those are two very thin girls. Perhaps the older one is protecting the younger one?

Both girls are black. So I had already guessed.

I know that it is terribly un-PC, but do they THINK that providing the girls' SKIN COLOR might be helpful in finding them?

Not too terribly thin for 16. I've seen many teens that skinny.

How do they know the older abducted the younger? Maybe they were BOTH abducted! Why aren't both girls on amber alert? Something is fishy here.

From another source:
The two girls left their grandmother's home Wednesday morning after the 55-year-old woman was beaten, police said.
Authorities were looking for Shantelle Tylameka Hines and her older sister Keonte Lavale Hines, who police said was a suspect in the beating.
The grandmother, 55-year-old Mae Allie Hardy, was attacked about 7:49 a.m. Wednesday, Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright told the Herald-Journal.
The grandmother was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

My guess is that they two girls were escaping from an abusive home enviornment.

Because if you saw two white girls together that fit their height and weight, you'd know it wasn't them. By naming their race you exclude all other races and focus on two black girls.

Dang. I wonder if the GM beat the 10 year old and her sister got tired of it.

Sounds like your typical crime, if they both beat up their grandma then why issue an amber alert, why not just put out an APB and an arrest warrant.
