"... The Democratic Party's threat to use the filibuster - a technique which allows senators to block debate by talking non-stop - has led Republican leaders to scramble for the 60 votes needed to counter it.
Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge covers 19 million acres
Vice-President Dick Cheney has returned early from a trip to the Middle East to ensure he can break any tie with his casting vote as Senate president.
Alaska's Republican Senator Ted Stevens said Wednesday's vote would be the closest on the issue in the past 25 years.

Where is Cheney?
Cheney probably won't be needed: too many Rino's will vote with the Democraps.
Cheney is probably in a back corridor - we know he is in the building because of his tie-break vote earlier today.
Sorry to hear that.
The RATS are insane but we'll see how many need medication?
Crush them Cheney. Do it now! Sick of these animals.
Man...filibuster, filibuster, filibuster. IT IS ALL I HEAR ABOUT ANYMORE! The Democrats are such a bunch of whining crybabies!
bttt
Republicans will cave on this. We lost 5 republicrat senators already. ANWR is going to die and the headlines in the Slimes tomorrow will read:
"Republican abuse of Miltary bill to get ANWR through Fails"
This amazes me. What are they so afraid of?
Totally AMAZING how many Senators are willing to vote against milirary defense and economic defense ... this should be good fodder for the 2006 elections!
When you don't have the votes, it's all you can do.
Clinton just voted against military spending ...
Time to vote them out for their no vote. Which is probably what they were afraid of if they had voted yes. Another major difference between Conservatives and Liberals.
Woldn't want to lose those Greenie contributions to Nadar.
MSM will report the way the Liberals want: i.e., due to the attempted rules violation of including ANWAR in the Defense Bill, Democrats refused to be blackmailed, yadayadayada.....
I hate to have to say this, but the bad guys win this one. Attaching ANWR to a Defense Authorization is not and will not play well.
This vote will serve a purpose of putting the RATS on record as voting against our military and when the elections comes up they're toast.
The vote right now is on cloture.
