NEW YORK A delegation of progressive Los Angeles Times readers angry with last month's firing of columnist Robert Scheer met Dec. 13 with Times editors -- and have devised an "inside-outside" protest strategy.
That's according to an LAObserved.com report linked Tuesday on Jim Romenesko's media blog at Poynter.org.
The delegation -- which said it met for 90 minutes with Times Editorial Page Editor Andres Martinez and Op-Ed Editor Nicholas Goldberg -- wants more liberal voices in the Times to balance conservative columnists such as Max Boot and the Tribune Media Services-syndicated Jonah Goldberg. Martinez and Goldberg said the Times does run various pieces containing liberal commentary.
The "inside-outside" approach involves some unhappy Times readers re-subscribing on a contingency basis (to see what the opinion pages look like in the next three months) while others don't re-subscribe. The delegation also suggested that people write the Times to praise or criticize opinion content.
Those meeting with the Times editors included representatives from Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles, SoCal Grassroots, and Chicano Moratorium, according to LAObserved.com.
Scheer, who's syndicated by Creators Syndicate, is now affiliated with the San Francisco Chronicle.
All 25 of them?
The democrat party members of the LA times met with their kinderd souls and will use this as an excuse to run even more wing-nut, moonbat influence. That means they will run the paper out of business sooner than later.
Arrogant little spoiled pschitts. If we really had a balanced media, they'd go so crazy they'd all be in mental institutions.
Progressive, as in progressively more idiotic, progressively more irrelevant, progressively more out of touch with each passing minute.
It's this whole self-esteem thing, We don't have poor readers any more, they're "progressing"

Robert Scheer fired? Whoo Hoo! Smarmy little twit e'was.
Why are liberals so afraid of being identified as liberals? And why do publication like Editor and Publisher shill for them?
If tomorrow, conservatives decided to call themselves "realists", who in the liberal press would comply with the identity reassignment?
none.
How come Liberal's almost never are?
Cancelled my subscription to the LA Times 5 years ago. Don't miss it one bit!
Imagine if we did the same thing every time Ann Coulter's column was removed from a newspaper!
Calling Sheer a leftist is like calling Manson a mischevious adult.
Liberals are such a f'd up group these days. When pegged for what they were, they merely shed the mantle of liberal and moved on to progressive.
Progressive is a wierd word for them to use. These are people who want to revert to marxist and socialist ways, two systems that have gone belly up more times than bears have taken ---ps in the woods. Why would someone want to Regress to that?
The Regressives are at it again. Once a liberal, always a nut-job liberal.
Were they all from Hollywierd and led by Barbra Streisand?
This is the second reference using "progressive" instead of "leftist commie scum" :-) that I have seen very recently; my guess is that it's the poll-picked term of the week.
Boy, the "protecting the troops" mantra that they just tried for a week or 2 failed miserably.
More liberal voices??? Is that even possible??
Progressives=Losers
"Imagine if we did the same thing every time Ann Coulter's..."
So....what is the point of this question? (with all due respect)
IMO we can concern ourselves with (I guess your version of) intellectual consistency when the LSM is put further out to the proverbial pasture. The board is still absurdly tilted toward the leftist side of the bench.
Scheer was a particularly nasty little slug (a psuedo-male / trangendered version of Helen Thomas) in case you have not followed him. Schadenfreude at his departure to
SF.
