LOS ANGELES - Hundreds of people attended a star-studded funeral Tuesday for executed killer Stanley Tookie Williams in the violence-wracked South Los Angeles section where he founded the murderous Crips gang three decades ago.

Under heavy police presence, mourners including gang members flashing hand signs waited in line to enter the 1,500-seat Bethel AME Church. A big TV screen was set up in a parking lot for an overflow crowd. Vendors sold T-shirts with Williams’ picture.

OK, I am opposed to the death penalty for a variety of reasons, but the LAW (and the death penalty is law in California) was applied appropriately in this case...I mean if anyone deserves to die, is it not the founder of one of the most destructive gangs the US has ever seen? Not losing any sleep over the 'loss' of Mr. Willaims

I'm anti-death penalty, too, but I was laughing a lot during this situation. Why? Because of the "reasons" he shouldn't die--because he "helped kids turn away from gangs," but wouldn't rat out his fellow thugs who helped him found THE gang, because he was a "Nobel prize nominee," just like Hitler and Stalin, and because he "was sorry" but never admitted his guilt or apologized.

You are against the death penalty for the child molester who kidnapped the little girl from her home, raped her, and buried her alive?

Or the parents who systematically hid, abused, and starved their son until he was 18 years old. Put him on a one way trip to Florida weighing 89 pounds. When he arrived he didn't know anyone or where to go so he ended up at some woman's house asking for water where he soon died. I'll never forget that story. Never in my life. I cry for that young man's heart everytime I think of it.

If animals such as Tookie would have been executed within days of their sentencing rather than wasting taxpayers' money and time trying to game the system and earn sympathy from stupid liberals, then more people would be in favor of the death penalty.

Death sentences should be carried out within at least 90 days.

Crips turn out
Several dozen gang members wearing blue attire associated with Crips gangs watched the funeral in the parking lot. One who identified himself as “Killowatt the Third,” age 33, estimated there were 20 to 30 Crips-affiliated gangs there to honor Williams.

“That’s my role model, man. That’s the CEO of the Crips,” he said.

I guess some people didn't get the "message."

Or at least 5 years. They deserve the chance to appeal and our courts are very backed up. That way we know for sure they are guilty.........Tookie got 19 years more than he should have of life. God Bless the victims.

"Snoop Dog told mourners, reciting a poem about the execution. The line 'I don't believe Stan did it' drew wild applause."

And yet Tookie said this..."teach them to rebuild the neighborhoods that you, others, and I helped to destroy."

Yes, still opposed to the death penalty...I do not think the State should be executing its citizens...the ultimate power of the government over people.

That does not mean that I want the convicted walking around my street or that I think they should have their freedom ever again...it comes down to my view of the power of the goverment.

"I mean if anyone deserves to die, is it not the founder of one of the most destructive gangs the US has ever seen?"

I think he more deserves to die for, among other things, putting a 12-guage shotgun to an innocent family man's spine and pulling the trigger, but whatever works for ya.

Forgive my gallows humor here, but wouldn't this guys funeral been a perfect time for a carload of Bloods to ride by with an old "Chicago typewriter" and mow down like half of their rival gang at one time? (maybe taking out a few whiney libs in the process)

Bones

Really surprised the Bloods did not try to kill him first...before he was executed...would have been a real coup for them...

Since they're still interested, I say we dig him up and stick him in the chair again.
