Fox News alert a few minutes ago says the Dover School Board lost their bid to have Intelligent Design introduced into high school biology classes. The federal judge ruled that their case was based on the premise that Darwin's Theory of Evolution was incompatible with religion, and that this premise is false.
You have your fairy tales, I have mine.
I think myth is trying to explain how the world came into existence without some supernatural element. No matter what theory you look at, eventually you get back to something that can't be explained without creation.
The big bang theory starts with the notion of a cosmic explosion that caused matter to be hurled in all directions. So then, under this theory, the question becomes how did the original matter come into existence?
Atheism is now our official religion. The black-robed high priests have declared it so.
If you want science to be subservient to a political agenda, then yes. You'd probably be happier finding a public school that will do just that.
Funny, conservatives usually hate PC. But when it comes to this particular dogma, many are happy to adopt it for themselves.
Thanks for the link.
You've been here long enough to know that your statement isn't true. Many faithful people accept evolution, like, say, the entire Catholic Church.
So the question is, do you not understand the meaning of "truth"? Or can you just not remember what you learned before today?
"You have to have FAITH in order for that theory to hold any shred of truth. No evidence exists for it, never has, and in my view, it never will."
Horse manure. Your unwillingness to examine the overwhelming evidence in now way demonstrates there is not evidence. Evolution is one of the best supported theories in the history is science.
"People often assert that the theory of evolution has been scientifically proven as true. "
Actually, the only people asserting that are creationists who SAY that evolution scientist claim this. The reality is that scientists actually KNOW the definition of "theory" and would never make such a stupid assertion.
I see now that you are attempting to draw folks into some sort of discussion, but you are doing it on false premises. No serious evolutionary scientist would ever assert that the theory of evolutions has been proven. That sort of comment is reserved for those who lie about evolution.
"The big bang theory starts with the notion of a cosmic explosion that caused matter to be hurled in all directions."
Actually, it wasn't an explosion but the expansion of the universe.
BTW, the Big Bang has nothing to do with the Theory of Evolution.
I think creation as specifically taught in the Bible is an issue of faith. However, no matter what "scientific" theory you look at, eventually you get back to something that can't be explained without creation.
The big bang theory starts with the notion of a cosmic explosion that caused matter to be hurled in all directions. So then, under this theory, the question becomes how did the original matter come into existence?
Oh, I agree.
I believe his point was the old why-haven't-all-the-current-monkeys-left-the jungle and start driving Volvos canard.
Mine was a short-hand response to that. Sorry.
He's been redefining words for so long here truth could mean anything.
I simply do not understand why both sides of the debate seem to want to rob kids of this very interesting discussion! Look at all the posts these threads always generate, it's an interesting subject! Let teachers lead classroom discussion of these ideas.
This was very easily handled in every high school science class I ever had in public school by my teachers: "Here's the theory of evolution... Some people think natural selection guides these changes, some people think God does... What do you think? Discuss!"
That may sound good, but is simply not true. We see evolution in action among elephant populations in Asia right now.
Elephants are being hunted for their tusks. Elephants born without tusks, generally at a disadvantage in finding food, are surviving to breed in higher numbers. The tuskless elephants are better suited to their environment, and as a result the population is becoming more and more dominated by tuskless elephants.
Predation is an important part of natural selection. It is through this particular predation that we have an example of "current evolution".
Sounds like a post from a sore loserman.
"The core theory of evolution is that the progress of all life began with the "Big Bang"."
The big bang and evolution have nothing in common and are related in no way.
Darwin's theory of natural selection starts with existing life. It does not delve into the origin or life, and certainly not the origin of the universe.
"However, no matter what "scientific" theory you look at, eventually you get back to something that can't be explained without creation."
No you don't.
"The big bang theory starts with the notion of a cosmic explosion that caused matter to be hurled in all directions."
No it doesn't. The Big Bang has nothing to do with evolution.
" So then, under this theory, the question becomes how did the original matter come into existence?"
It's not possible to know. Scientists are humble enough to say they simply don't know.
There is nothing known of evolution that would be incompatible with the notion that God created the entire universe Last Thursday, but there's no scientific evidence to support the notion.
The point is still the same....how did the universe come into existence?
BTW, the Big Bang has nothing to do with the Theory of Evolution.
I know that, but the point is valid for both theories. If creatures evolved, what did they evolve from? What was the very first thing under the evolution theory and how did it come into existence?
