ABOARD AIR FORCE TWO (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney will cut short his trip to the Middle East and Asia and return to Washington to be available if his vote is needed on legislation moving through Congress, a White House official said.

"He's needed for close votes," Cheney adviser Steve Schmidt told reporters traveling with the vice president. "The vice president is returning to Washington to be on hand in the Senate ... to cast tie-breaking votes if necessary."

Isn't this just another example of Congress getting in the way of this Administration and its efforts to fight a global war on terror....the damn RINO's are dragging this country down.I expect this from the Democrats, but come on Repubs...stick together for once...

I hope so. Frist should release no one for the holidays until the Patriot Act is renewed and a number of other legislations are passed. See if these filibustering Senators are willing to give up their holiday to be obstructionists.

I hope Cheney does get to be the tie breaker though. I'd love to see the Dems response to that.

I think Hillary blew Cheney's trip when she ANNOUNCED "Cheney should go to Iraq" a few hours before he left. I would say that she got the information via her position on the Armed Forces Committee.

Hillary does this all the time....Says something, then lo and behold....It occurs...and it's as if she can take credit for it. Political Illusion....of Delusion.

That's my reaction too. Don't Republicans control the Senate and the timing of votes?

Official reasons for abrupt returns from foreign trips are not always the real reasons.

He *might* have to cast a tie-breaking vote? hmmm...

OTOH the President is very upset about something. The VP returns home early. Two religious holidays are coming up - two birds with one stone, not to mention Israel does not want Iran to get The Bomb.

We've been lucky thus far and haven't had any terrorist attacks since 9/11. We've been told repeatedly that our luck won't hold out forever.

What can it hurt to fill up the gas tank and have extra bottled water on hand?

Iran and Israel would be my guess.

The other being they have credible intelligence of a threat around Christmas.

OTOH, Airbus may have surrendered to Boeing, and we need someone to preside over the armistice.

My understanding is that if there's ever a situation that a Texas Ranger is unable to handle, Dick Cheney is on the list as "appropriate backup".

That's why he's on his way. Must be serious.
