ATLANTA (AP) -- U.S. Representative John Lewis said in a radio interview on Monday that President Bush should be impeached if he broke the law in authorizing spying on Americans.
The Democratic congressman from Georgia told WAOK-AM that he would sign a bill of impeachment if one was drawn up and that the House of Representatives should consider such a move.
Lewis is among several Democrats who have voiced discontent with Sunday night's television speech, where Bush asked Americans to continue to support the Iraq War. Lewis is the first major House figure to suggest impeaching Bush.
Lewis said --quote-- "It's a very serious charge, but he violated the law.The president should abide by the law. He deliberately, systematically violated the law. He is not King, he is president."
I think that if Lewis or anyone in his office had anything to do with the leak that he should be impeached.
I would imagine that he will refile that bill in 2007 if there is a new Democrat House under "Speaker" Pelosi.
Actually, it may be illegal in Atlanta to make fun of one with a speech impediment.
I imagine he's totally ignorant of the FISA Act, which puts him in a group which includes most "journalists", most Congressmen, and most of the public. On ABC TV tonight they are saying "Bush spied on Americans" with absolutely no discussion of FISA or what it includes, or what Bush really said during the press conference today. ABC makes it sound as if the NSA is monitoring domestic calls between you and your grandmother, instead of international traffic involving terrorist suspects. If Bush had not been in the White House since 9/11/01, we would have been attacked several more times by the terrorists here in the U.S. The surveillance is legal, and as Bush said, members of Congress have been briefed on it repeatedly. One of them may have leaked it to the New York Aljazeera Times.
Exactly! You have it! Why dont others get it? Because they are not listening to whats being said.
Seems this was put on the talking point memo ... it's not the first time I've heard that line today
Yes, this charge is almost as serious as the charge that President Bush had to go pee during an all-morning UN gabfest.
I guess the "Bush's war is a failure" campaign wasn't working. They needed something new divert attention away from their previous blotch.
I 100% disagree with your reading of that subsection I've been posting this afternoon. And you don't know that the DOJ hasn't gotten warrants for wire taps when US citizens are involved. In fact, I was just listening to the press conference again and the president made it quite clear that they ARE getting FISA warrants.
You must be making some point that I am not understanding at all. Because I think the posts I've made are clear as day.
Lugsoul - read this. Congress passed new legislation which permitted the wiretapping of US citizens without a warrant.

How about we get John Lewis impeached? Along with his fellow treasonous scumbags, such as Pelosi?

No way Bush can win the war on terrorism when the main terrorist ally is the DNC.
It appears a lot of MSM "Constitutional Experts" are now saying that the President has good case law supporting his authority under statute and the War Powers Act. The RATS will fizzle on this one but the call for action on who leaked this will be great.
Over 8 million (or some other unbelieveable #) died durring transport on their way here, and were thrown overboard as they died, and to THIS day, the sharks in GREAT numbers, STILL follow the along the EXACT route they took back then, still hoping for a repeat performance.
It's not an EXACT quote....but it's pretty darn close...
Pity he wasn't this irate when Toon was doing it.
Isn't this the idiot who talked about sharks eating slaves? Call the men in white coats.
