CHICAGO Mayor Richard M. Daley was explaining away $48 million in cost overruns for the renovation of a terminal at O'Hare International Airport when a regular at his daily news conferences wondered if, 5 or 10 years hence, he would be offering similar excuses for how his $15 billion expansion of the airport busted its budget.
"I'm coming back in 5 or 10 years?" Daley interrupted, deflecting the inquiry with a snorted chuckle of surprise. "Thank you!"

If it's between Daley and Jesse Jackson Jr., I'll take Daley any day.
Daley is as crooked as the day is long, and his current evasion of federal prosecution takes "plausible deniability" to a new level. It's a shame that his only credible challenger seems to be Jesse Jackson Jr., who if he is anything like his father might actually be a bigger charlatan than Daley himself.

Beat me to it! I wonder if anybody who had an airplane at Meigs when the ruways were bulldozed ever collected any money for reimbursement for the costs of disassembly and removal of their aircraft? I heard there were 12 or so there when the midnight raid on the runway happened...
