What you are describing is "hillbillies" a whole nother breed of cat.
Rednecks here are the workers, truck drivers, ranchers etc.
An independent and self reliant folk.

I know that, that is the older term once used in America. Now liberals use the term redneck as an insulting to describe ALL conservatives. Try to keep up with the pace.

I thought the term Redneck referred to farmers or other outdoor workers who got red necks from working in the sun. I've heard many ethnics refer to Christian Whites as Redneck whether they wear a suit and tie to work or not. It is a pejorative intended to insult white people.

I agree with your definition. I've always imagined I fit in that category as well. Even though I possess several degrees and am a retired teacher, I'm still an Okie and wear my cowboy boots proudly. It was a conscious choice of a sort of common sense over the "libby dibby dumb ass academic" crowd.
