Long story short, the "shoplifter" attempted vehicular homicide.

What's this guy shooting at a guy shopping at Walmart for? It's not like they have anything of value in there.
:) HA!

Just read the story, The perp is very lucky to be alive. And once he is caught, he is for some serious jail time

Witnesses aren't backing the police officers story ...
Fire in Wal-Mart Parking Lot
http://www.newschannel5.com/content/news/16230.asp
In Montgomery County, a police officer opened fire on an accused shoplifter at the busy shopping center.
Friday afternoon at the Wal-Mart on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard in Clarksville, employees spotted the shoplifter, and chased him out the door.
Off-duty Detective Eric Green joined in the chase. His hand got caught in the car door when the suspect tried to drive off. The detective was able to get free, and then he fired a shot at the car.
Police don't know if the officer hit the suspect. TBI agents are investigating the shooting.

The cop was face-to-face with the bad guy and almost got run over, but they don't have a detailed description of the vehicle or the suspect. Maybe he only fired one shot because Andy only let him have one bullet.

I just know you're not shopping at Walmart. And to thank I used to like you. Now, finding you purchase cheap ink from the devil, means I hold you in contempt. You disgust me!
:) HA!

That seems to be very similar to the Officers story, his hand got caught in the door and the suspect continued to flee. The Officer had to believe his life was in danger and if his life was in danger, so was everyone else who might confront the suspect.
The Shoplifter is very lucky to be alive IMHO

You posted to a very vague story which doesn't contradict the officers story.
You're reading too much into typical bad reporting and the media's love of making things more dramatic.

That's not what I got from the link... How is he in a life or death situation when he's beside the car, not behind it? He may have been "hurt" but unlikely killed.

What's this guy shooting at a guy shopping at Walmart for? He looked Chinese so he thought he might be smuggling stuff in instead of out. :-)

if this happened more often, there would be far fewer crimes. All it takes is knowing that you can be shot if you commit a crime or don't cooperate with law enforcement. I think the cop deserves an award for taking action- even if he missed the creep. We have hampered the ability of police to enforce laws to the point of absurdity. Watch the "cop" shows and see how criminals are allowed to almost kill hundreds of people while driving recklessly in stolen vehicles through city streets, and the cops can't shoot them. I say remove all rules prohibiting shooting fleeing criminals. That will do more than tougher prison sentences or the death penalty. Actually, we could simply call it "front-loading" the death penalty.

How is he in a life or death situation when he's beside the car, not behind it? That the car's front bumper wasn't nicely aligned with the officer's head or torso is a fact only meaningful to those hoping to skirt charges with a dim-witted jury.

I always ask myself, who has the most to gain by lying.
In this case, it may be the officer. To justify his shooting, may be embellishing the truth...
The perp would get probation for shop lifting, the cop would get fired for illegal use of his hand gun... If you were the cop, would you try to justify the shooting? You don't have to answer that...
