President Bush has apparently capitulated on the "torture" issue, agreeing to accept, with only slight modifications, Sen. John McCain's amendment that would ban "cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment" of terrorists in U.S. custody.
Podhoretz's phrase--"a form of unilateral disarmament . . . in the face of a still intransigent enemy"--is an apt description of the McCain amendment, which will certainly not prompt any reciprocal moves by terrorists to abjure tactics like beheading civilians or flying planes into buildings.

"Unilateral Disarmament" that's about sums up McCain's bill, which was passed by overwhelming majority in both the US Senate and House, demonstrating that our representatives care much more about the terrorists, than they care about the lives of their constituents and the country as a whole.

Rush Limbaugh calls it the "Al Queda Bill Of Rights".
To: Hillarys Gate Cult; holdonnow
Actually F. Lee Levin coined that one, and Rush borrowed it :-)
Rush also credits Mark Levin for that phrase

IMHO, The only thing McCain's bill has done is reinforce what the President has been saying all along.... WE DON'T TROTURE ANYONE.. Those who do face Military Justice or U.S. Justice

Podhoretz's phrase--"a form of unilateral disarmament . . . in the face of a still intransigent enemy"
Mark Levin is attributed with calling the McCain Bill The al-Qaeda Bill of Rights
The liberal PC crowd in Congress are determined to give terrorists, enemies of the foundation of our Nation, those bend on destroying our Nation, Constitutional rights and protections. Yet, those same enemies would tear the Constitution to shreds, imprison or behead all in opposition them, and force submission to their religious laws and beliefs without question -- or due process.

McCain-Feingold proves beyond a shadow of doubt that McCain has very poor judgment.

We are being tortured by McCain. McCain and Hagel are the two biggest opportunists in our Party. IMHO these grandstander's are not fighting for us, they are fighting for invitations on Meet the Press, Face the Nation or any other MSM DNC Tool

I am really curious about why Sununu, Murkowski, and Craig have jumped ship on the Patriot Act...
Hagel I can understand...he is usually a pain in Bush's butt...but these three...I don't get it.

To be honest, there are some provisions of the Patriot Act that I would not want in the hands of any living democrat. Can you imagine how Hillary would use the Patriot Act?

Okay...I understand that...but, can you be sure that even if they are removed that Hillary wouldn't do what she darn well pleases anyway??
Remember the Barrett report...it looks like she will get away with illegal IRS audits...as well as her other "misdeeds" as first lady..
I am sure no matter what the Patriot Act actually says, a Hillary Clinton will assume that it doesn't pertain to her.

McCain is a real peace of work. That crap bill he got pass about Campaign Finance was a joke. Now, this new torture bill is just as politcal. It's all crap. Both bills do way more to hurt the country than to help it. I suppose they help McCain's political career which is all he cares about.

For a couple of bucks each we can all send McCain a package of jockey shorts. That way he can take them on the Sunday New's propaganda shows to demonstrate just how terrible we treat our prisoners.
We need to send underwear to all the Republican Congress critters to show them their folly. I think this would be the perfect way to show how silly all this is.

It isn't the hold McCain has over Bush, it's what hold he has over CONGRESS.
After both the Senate and House passed the bill with such overwhelming majority, they could have been able to override President Bush's veto, so President Bush' only option to save face was to go along, or suffer a stinging defeat.

it's what hold he has over CONGRESS. Don't forget he basks in the worship of the press.
