I'm reminded of the Geek show, that part of the freak show that featured some poor soul who would come out and eat bugs, bite the heads off chickens, defecate on himself, do pretty much anything to degrade himself. Legend has it that the geek was usually an acoholic, some person the carny picked up and paid in booze as long as he wallowed in his filth and allowed himself to be sold as less than human.

I don't see much difference between the geek and Michael Crook. He's someone looking to cash in on being completely honorless. The stunt of writing to soldiers was carefully planned, appearaing on Hannity and Colmes is planned, all things designed to get attention and uild his 'brand.' He doesn't feel embarrasment, he only revels in the publicity.
