Democrats hoping to convince their fellow Americans that they offer a viable alternative to President Bush are being done an enormous disservice by the national chairman of their party.
Howard Dean last week shocked many other leaders in his party when, during an interview in Texas, he said, "The idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong." That sent several Democrats in Congress including Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada scrambling to undo the damage. Reid, certainly no friend of Bush, said the war must be won economically, politically and militarily. "We have the ability to win all three," he emphasized.
A Democratic National Committee official, in a role to which DNC leaders have become accustomed, quickly attempted to paint Dean's comments in a different light. "We can only win if the Iraqi people are able to play a greater role in peacekeeping.

Shhhhhh!!!!
"Dean isn't helping Democrats"
SSSHHHHHHHHH............. Don't tell anybody.
Three cheers for VRWC Secret Agent Dean!
Oh great - this guy must now know that Howard "I-am-loonie" Dean is a Republican plant. I was kind of hoping it would go unnoticed for the foreseeable future. :(
If I didnt know better, I would actually believe this because he is helping us so much... but he IS just that stupid.
This is a ND paper and still seems leftist.
All part of the plan to make Hitlery seem like a moderate by comparison. Don't expect Dean to shut up, he's under orders.
Keep exposing the rift, accentuate the differences in policy and ideology constantly. This puts pressure on her to constantly shift her position in public, ala Kerry.
Clinton's strategy depends on the deception, don't allow them to have it.
I just find it amazing how widespread is the willingness of Democrats to impale themselves for Hillary's benefit. Or should I phrase that as to "roll over one more time"?
When the Democrats look in the mirror, they see Howard Dean's face. They are afraid of their own shadow.
Three boos for VLWC agent John McCain!
Howard Dean is a test of the stupidity the Democrat National Committee. They are passing with flying colors. We can only hope for more.
This is true; but not quite in the way the author intended. The dems have, for decades, been the party that takes great care to conceal what they actually think from the voters. Howie hurt them badly by not lying for just a moment.
Even the author understands this on some level. Note that the emphasis on on Dems 'hoping to convince' voters they have a viable alternative. Not dems 'with' an viable alternative.
I'm seeing Karl Rove's fine hand in this. He is making Howard Dean say those things, I just know it.
He has these powers, don't you know ......
"Dean isn't helping Democrats"
You see gang it's just like putting a monkey in front of a typewriter. Sooner or later Zippy will write something that makes sense, even if it is by accident. If you put a ratmedia type at a keyboard long enough ......
and this isn't helping Dean---

God I love that man! Three Cheers for Dean and the Deaniacts! Paving the way for Repblican Supremecy in another election!
Dean isn't suposed to help the Democrats. He's a sleeper planted in the Dem's party by the Repubs, many moons ago.
Don't fool yourself: Dean is playing his part perfectly.
The dimwits get to keep his fund-raising machine while his big mouth and idocy make Hilary look absolutely moderate.
There is a method in their madness.
