The House voted last night to build nearly 700 miles of fence along the U.S.-Mexico border as it began the first major floor debate in years on enforcing immigration laws. The vote, 260-159, came on an amendment to a border-security and employer-verification bill that is scheduled for a final vote today. Republican leaders appeared to have cleared a remaining hurdle last night by promising to remove language that said there should be a legal means for foreign workers to come and go. Some Republicans had argued that the provision, which was nonbinding, was a place-holder to attach a guest-worker plan in the future and thus was a deal-killer. On the fence construction vote, 49 Democrats joined 211 Republicans in supporting it while 12 Republicans joined the Democrats and one independent in voting against it.

Warm fuzzies.
I believe the border is longer than 700 miles...so where is this 700 miles going?
I fully support this, IF, an American company gets the contract and American labor is employed to do the construction.
Illegals building this fence would be a recipe for disaster.
Border fence or wall! Stupid!
The U.S. should charge Mexico's president Vicente Fox with gross neglect for driving his pobres out of their own country because MEXICO HAS NOT ENACTED ANY REFORMS OR POLICIES TO BENEFIT and economically uplift 65% of THEIR POPULATION. If fact, so should the great (PHONY) humanitarian and altruistic entity known as the United Nations made charges against the Euro-Elite Mexican government. The U.S Congress should be cited for allowing this pathetic borders situation to even exist. What a disservice to American citizens. Disgusting!
Can we also put in guard towers, with 50 mm Machine guns, land mines, and guard dogs?
If only the Senate had half the cojones that the House has, which isn't even that much.
J-LENS? Is that J- LO's younger brother?
I completely expect the wall to not get funded and Shamnesty snuck through in the dark of night.
It's a type of blimp. Sorry for the undefined acronym.
More debate today (CSPAN). Critical votes will follow debate. Hope is alive.
So J-Lo's brother, J-Len is fat? :)
Excellent news!
Now lets see what kind of spine the Senate has?
Dollar to a donut Bush will shun this thing like the plague.
Maybe since Bush is afraid of "Crybaby McCain he(McCain)can be persuaded to slobber on Bush's shoulder and get him to capitulate, isn't that the way things are done in the halls of congress?
Wait a minute I forgot to say the magic words McCain "is a highly decorated war hero".
So what the bushes are full of 'em!
An absolute blimp.
Let's put a collar on every Mexican national so that their heads explode when they cross the border like in "The Running Man".
Clauses like this are a solid indication of just how serious these Representatives are about controlliong Illegal Immigration.

They wouldn't have to "escape" if we would force Mexico to reform (slowing tourist dollars for one). Oh, but that would be interfering in another country's internal affairs - unlike dumping your poor on another country.
