The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

He hasn't been heard from in more than a year, but one news site reports that it has obtained a new tape of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

But U.S. officials are skeptical of the report, CBS News reports.

The story from Pajhwok Afghan News, dated Tuesday, describes a new 30-minute tape with a message from Taliban commander Mullah Dodallah and the al Qaeda leader, according to the IntelCenter, a U.S. government contractor that does work for intelligence agencies.

Well, if Russia "fully supports" Iran's nuke program, it's a safe bet that NOTTA is going to come out of any efforts to get the UN to move on this. (Russia is obviously one of the Permanent members of the UN and has veto power over any sanctions, etc).

I've wondered what has made Iran so cocky in the past month. (Threatening to "wipe Israel off the map" and other outrageous, "out there" statements). Gee..could it be because they knew they had the backing of Russia (and possibly China) all along?

It's almost like they're baiting the US & Israel. Add in info (out today) about Russia re-opening their bunkers (supposedly due to the cold snap..um, yeah..that's it) and also rumors [yet to be 'officially' confirmed but making rounds] about Russian military planes spotted over Japan today (reported on the TFP Board). Then, there's the nuke "exercise" we're doing in early Feb for Charleston (I think that was the city), NC..and "exercises" over DC the past couple of days..) Add in the Osama tape, and Chirac threatening "nuclear retaliation" against acts of terrorism on French soil. (Um, who's he gonna nuke? A camel in the desert?)

Things are getting VERY interesting.

"We were watching the WB channel and it broke off to a screen with writing on it and a countdown clock the clock was moving. It was set at 19 days something hours and minutes and seconds stayed on the screen for about 8 or 9 seconds and changed back to regular progaramming again.".

Apparently, this happened only on DirecTv (Satellite).

Very odd that this happened at the same time as the "countdown clock" re-appearing on the Jihadi forums..and, then there's that **19** again.

Coincidence? I don't belong to TB2K, so can't email the person who reported this, but sure would like to know more about the writing, etc.

The arrest in January 2005 of Noel Exinia and Cesario Nunez appeared on the surface to be just another drug bust. But court documents obtained by the Brownsville (Texas) Herald show the necessity of surveillance of overseas call and e-mails.

They also show why Osama bin Laden's latest audiotape warning of a new attack that Homeland Security won't be able to stop should be taken seriously.

Both Exinia and Nunez eventually pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy charges, including moving more than a quarter-ton of cocaine from Mexico through the Rio Grande Valley and on to New York City. But court documents filed in Exinia's case contain details of a December 2004 incident where he allegedly tried to secure transportation for 20 Middle Eastern men waiting to enter the U.S. from Puebla, Monterrey and Chiapas in Mexico.

As the Herald reported, "Recorded conversations authorized under the U.S. Patriot Act and a court order captured the (suspect) referring to the 20 men as 'gente de Osama,' or 'Osama's people.' " During a Jan. 5, 2005, conversation, Exinia described the men as "Iraqis," ages 25 to 33, who were willing to pay $8,000 for transportation past Border Patrol checkpoints in South Texas and into the U.S. interior.

Could they have been terrorists? Coast Guard Adm. James Loy, who was acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security before the swearing-in of Michael Chertoff, told the Senate Intelligence Committee last year: "Several al-Qaida leaders believe operatives can pay their way through Mexico and also believe illegal entry is more advantageous than legal entry for operational security reasons." Recent information, he added, showed "al-Qaida has considered using the Southwest border to infiltrate the United States."
