The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Video Comeback For Bin Laden?
Full Story

He hasn't been heard from in more than a year, but one news site reports that it has obtained a new tape of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

But U.S. officials are skeptical of the report, CBS News reports.

The story from Pajhwok Afghan News, dated Tuesday, describes a new 30-minute tape with a message from Taliban commander Mullah Dodallah and the al Qaeda leader, according to the IntelCenter, a U.S. government contractor that does work for intelligence agencies.

No, I am not surprised to find that the media in Australia direct what will be reported and will happen...

For some in Australia, it may be much safer to swim with the sharks rather than bathe on the beach (couldn't resist).

Too bad they missed Iran's president Mahmoud. They got his bodyguard so he must have been close by. I agree this may have been an attempt to fan the flames of war between Iran and Israel. But one has to wonder what would happen if the assassination was successful. Or what will happen when it happens . . .

US wants to build fences at Canadian border

Snip: The U.S. House of Representatives voted late Thursday night to consider erecting "physical barriers" along the American border with Canada, the firmest step yet toward building the kinds of fences now in place on the Mexican frontier to stop the northward flow of illegal aliens and smuggled goods.

The directive to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was passed by a strong majority of the House and was contained in an amendment to a controversial immigration bill working its way through Congress. The motion cleared the way for about 1,100 kilometres of new fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, but also urged the agency to "conduct a study on the use of physical barriers along the northern border."

Feds give AZ ultimatum - teach English to illegals or be fined $500,000 per day

Snip: December 17, 2005 - A federal judge on Friday gave the state 15 days after the legislative session begins in January to finally comply with his order to properly fund English-learner programs or face fines of $500,000 per day.

The judge also ruled that English learners do not have to pass Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards to receive high school diplomas. The class of 2006 includes about 4,000 English learners, and about 1,400 failed at least one portion of AIMS on their first three tries.

U.S. District Judge Raner Collins’ order makes it clear he is running out of patience with lawmakers: The $500,000 daily penalty starts if there is no resolution by Jan. 24. Failure to act by Feb. 23 would boost the penalty to $1 million a day, and the daily penalty would bump to $1.5 million one month after that.

Hey Zilla - miss your summaries a lot! Hope you've been doing okay! Good to see you on the new thread.

My work load and been exceptionally heavy the past 4-5 months and it looks to continue for a few more (imagine that - a gov't employee actually having to work). Been lurking mostly, just to keep up to date. Lots of folks filling the vacumn. But will be nice to have the time to start the summaries up again. Thanks for the thoughts!

Thanks Lucy and MamaD, that is scary to even think about. With the huge population in this country I'm thinking it's gonna be downright impossible to use those as mandatory camps.

I'm thinking it's gonna be downright impossible to use those as mandatory camps.

Dunno about that - seems we have a lot of people in this country eager to live off the public dole - most assuredly they'll be there (or ransacking the homes of others if they decide not to go).

It's one thing to get enough assistance to get on ones feet and reestablish onesself, and quite another to expect to live off public subsidies for the duration of ones life while sitting back and watching others work.

Spies warned of London tube attack

Snip: SPYMASTERS warned Tony Blair before the July 7 suicide bombings that Al-Qaeda was planning a “high priority” attack specifically aimed at the London Tube.

A leaked four-page report by the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC), which oversees all spying, is the first definitive evidence that the intelligence services expected terrorists to strike at the Underground.

The disclosure will fuel critics’ suspicions that Blair decided to rule out a public inquiry into the bombings last week because it could expose intelligence failings at the highest level.

The document, marked Top Secret and signed off by the heads of MI5, MI6 and GCHQ, the government eavesdropping centre, was based partly on the interrogation of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Al-Qaeda’s then operations chief.

It stated: “The UK and its interests remain high in Al-Qaeda’s priorities . . . Plans have been considered to attack Heathrow, the London Underground and other targets.”

Ministers and senior security officials have insisted that there was no warning of an imminent attack ahead of the July 7 bombings, in which 56 people died.

Australian Prime Minister wants to bring back Christmas

Snip: PRIME Minister John Howard wants to see more nativity scenes in shopping centres to put religion back into Christmas. He says he has contempt for arguments Christianity should be downplayed at Christmas in case it offends those of other faiths or non-religious people.

Speaking last Friday before the race riots in Sydney, Mr Howard said it was not a sign of tolerance to "bland out" religious symbols of Christmas."You don't demonstrate tolerance towards minorities by apologising for your own heritage," the Prime Minister said. "I hope some department stores would have the courage to bring back nativity scenes and not just Christmas trees.

"When I was a kid you'd go in and see the Christmas tree and Santa Claus, but there'd also be some nativity scenes in department stores. "They seem to have disappeared in recent years and you have this sort of, `Oh, we don't want to offend anybody'. Actually, you're offending a lot of people who think it's a great pity they've disappeared.

"Even if they're not especially religious themselves, they like the association. "It's part of the culture and the history and the nature of this country." Of 10 Adelaide shopping malls surveyed yesterday, five had nativity scenes, including all the Westfield centres. "We have nativity scenes in all our stores because that's what the true meaning of Christmas is – a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ," Westfield Marion retail manager John McCallum said.

However, Castle Plaza, in Edwardstown, decided against a nativity scene on the grounds of political correctness.

We need to keep an eye on this one, knowing al queda is in northern Africa strong...

THE PEOPLE

Malawi is often called the "warm heart of Africa." because of the warms and friendliness of the people. Malawians typically live with their extended families in huts that are grouped together in villages. A spirit of cooperation prevails as family members share both work and resources.

Malawi has a population of about 10,000,416 (July 1999 est.), with 90% of the population living in the rural areas, and population growth rate of 1.57% (1999 est.).

AND...

RELIGION

Religious Groups

The Chewa people, who form the largest part of the population predominantly Christian/Protestant and the Yao people are mainly Muslim

T the religious groups in Malawi can be broken down aproximately as follow:
Protestant 55%
Muslim 20%
Roman Catholic 20%
for traditional indigenous beliefs and other minor religions 5%

Hamas had captured 73% of the electoral vote.

WE now have another terrorist rat hole, add them to the axis of evil.

On GODS chosen land at that.

It is beyond me why Israel and America let this happen.

Many of our hospitals are ill equipped to handle crisis on a massisve scale and we know FEMA has "camps" at which to place survivors, if we value the post-Katrina lifestyle.

Out here in the wilderness we are definitely on our own. I have rather been here than have to deal with the nuts in a big city.

On the camps, one army base I know of being closed down is a real mystery to us all .It is underground super duper top secret in the pass! Fort Mac. south of Atlanta. My tin foil side says they are up to something else.

From the post:

"...the Mahdi as he exists in the minds of many of the 1.3 billion Muslims worldwide.

1. The Mahdi is Islam’s primary messiah figure.

15. He will cause Islam to be the only religion practiced on the earth.

21. He will be loved by all the people of the earth.

From the radio tonight, we are the only group of people in the country, that might understand the need to listen in on a terrorist conversation.

I know, Hubby and I have mental fenced over this one all day LOL

I say who cares who listens to your phone calls? Unless you are a senator or congressman with something to hide.

As far as the personal rights, anyone can go to Radio Shack and bug anyones phone. No it can't be used in court but all they need is the info anyway to build a case.

When Murphy's darling Eric Rudolph was playing hide and seek with the FBI, I think everybody's phone here was taped. LOL

ONE time, I was on the phone with my mother in a heated discussion about HER boy clintoon. My phone went dead and on her end she heard a man say, "They are just talking about...and her phone went dead."

Needless to say I had a blast after that, with more strange things happening. Still RITFLOL
