Former President Bill Clinton returned to Buffalo Wednesday with a message to Democrats: Grab onto the many opportunities Republicans are handing you, and focus your message. "President Nixon looks like a Communist compared to these guys," he said, referring to Republicans in Washington.
Clinton told some 300 local Democrats that Americans are rejecting public policy based on ideology, whether conservative or liberal, and instead want to return to results-based politics. "America is yearning for a sense of purpose and unity," he said at the Buffalo Convention Center.
Among his other points:
Afghanistan, not Iraq, is the most important military front in the War on Terror.
Republicans doctored a recent EPA study on air pollution to make remediation appear more expensive than it really was.
Republicans led the country down the "primrose path" on the cost of the Medicare Prescription Drug progam to benefit drug companies.
Republicans are trying to cut the Federal deficit by taking benefits from the poor and giving the rich tax cuts at a time of war. "Americans know this is fundamentally unfair," he said.
Clinton also said the reason he loves Buffalo is that it epitomizes fundamental American values. "I think there are a lot of old-fashioned people, and no matter how much trouble the community gets in, people are fanatically loyal to it."
Clinton added, "It may be indelicate to say, but you can't live and stay here if you're a wuss," which brought a roar and a round of applause.
Clinton went to the HSBC Arena Wednesday night to join Sabres owner Tom Golisano for the Sabres-Dallas Stars game. Golisano has bankrolled Clinton humanitarian and international relief programs, but is a newly-minted Republican who is often mentioned as a possible candidate for Governor next year.
stfu billy boy
"It may be indelicate to say, but you can't live and stay here if you're a wuss"
Only if you are a visitor are you a wuss.
He should know since the clintons are communists #1.
His wife helped chase Nixon from office.
Any luck at all the left will take this reprobates advice.
Too bad he woke up after his surgery.
(sorry, but I hate this excuse as a man)
Kevlar and Nomex on...
No offense to other Buffalo residents...but I find it apropo that Clinton would think of Buffalo as the "ideal" city, since one of the first al-queda groups after 9/11 was operating out of that city...
"Grab onto the many opportunities Republicans are handing you, and focus your message."
HUH? The GOP hasn't handed over ANY opportunities, save the deficit, which Bush can definitely tighten up by 08. The libnuts don't have answers to any issues. They are out of ideas, solutions, message, leaders, their minds and hope.
Stick a fork in the rats, they're done.
True enough. Nixon was a manager and expander of Johnson's Great Society.
From a rapist no less.
LOL!
Just wondering what kind of "act" they should do together...
Clinton is for Clinton, and for no one else. He got himself elected twice, and sank his party all the while. If they listen to him, they deserve everything they get. (I hope they listen to him. And to Howard Dean.)
croak
Sage advice (sarcasm) from the biggest jerk-off ever to occupy the oval office.

Or the football team.
I take no offense (as a Buffalo area resident, 40 miles south). You have a good point. The Lackawanna 5 types and their ilk are still around the city. The Muzzies purchased some old buildings that had fences around it (topped by concertina wire) and rumor has it they "train" people there. Some pictures were on the net, but they "disappeared." Hopefully, the FBI et al are on top of this.
Interesting question from a friend of mine re: why Buffalo? Other than the obvious ease to cross to Canada..... hmmmm... who supplies NY City with most of their water? hmmmm... the Water Authority at Niagara Falls. Not a pretty thought!
