News Observer via Economics Briefing ^ | December 14, 2005

Newspaper columnist Robert Novak is still not naming his source in the Valerie Plame affair, but he says he is pretty sure the name is no mystery to President Bush.

"I'm confident the president knows who the source is,"...

does he have no responsibility for national security?

What national security issue? Revealing Plame's employment at the CIA?
The only folks that have made the national security claim is the MSM.
Novak called the CIA before his column went to print, and asked if she was undercover and protected. The CIA was silent. They have a duty to protect her and decided not to. She was apparently not covert.

Well, the whole deal is an issue of nat'l security. I care.
It is, under certain circumstances, against the law to reveal a relationship of an individual to the CIA. But in what sense, precisely, is the publishing by Novak of the CIA's employment of Valerie Plame Wilson "an issue of national security?"

The (alledged) facts I have seen do not support the conclusion that what was done was even against the law, but if in fact it had been - if Mrs. Wilson had in fact been undercover overseas within 4.9 years of the publishing of her relationship with the CIA rather than in excess of five years as the law states - that would not in and of itself make it "an issue of national security."

I trust the Democratic Party and the "mainstream media" to tell me if any CIA contacts were "burned" by the so-called "outting" by Novak. It hardly seems, in this case, that the CIA would be holding back on it - after having forwarded the initial case to Justice. So I say, "no harm, no foul."

If this is an "issue of national security," it is so only to the extent that the Commander-in-chief and his staff are being gratuitously distracted and disrupted with trifles.

These guys are demagogues, and they only care about "national security" because they are desperately seeking some flimsy excuse to impeach Bush. The relevant statute doesn't even apply to Valerie Plame.

Logic will not work against this guy. He isn't even coming back because he knows he's wrong. I just pointed out the hypocrisy of letting Joe Wilson slide on his breach of "national security."

Novak specifically apologized for using the word operative in his July column....and explained....Operative in DC means party operative.

The fact that Valerie contributed $1000 to the Dems, using her super secret (pretend) work address besides, on the day after they returned $1000 to Joe is a big clue.

Novak probably knew Valerie before she married Joe. They lived at the Watergate for cripes sakes and he was still married to Jacqueline. It's not as if Plame was a pretend name. The only connection between her maiden name and married name that I can see is that Joe went to Niger the first time during the Clinton administration. They knew her as Valerie Plame before April 23, 1998. Wonder who was at their wedding??

Novak is one of the very few guys in the media who's even close to being a straight shooter.

If he such a straight shooter then why don't he end all the BS about nothing and reveal what he knows and save the tax payers a bunch of money. He is as self serving as all the other butt wipe media whores in DC...

Fitz ordered Novak to be silent until after this was over. But from what is going on right now....I'm betting that Novak will say SU to Fitz. Almost every other witness has been allowed to speak out after they testified. I do not see how you can "bind" one and let the others speak freely OR let Miller off the hook with her "partial" revelations.

I'm noticing in a Cooper column...that Cooper says....I don't know if those are my words or his (Rove's). Gee...I'd call that worthless testimony.

All I am saying is that you should be concerned with "leaks" in the government. Especially when no one ends up taking responsibility for it and top officials have knowledge of it.

Wow. Talk about meaningless pap from Novak.

George W. Bush is the President of the United States. His man Porter Goss is CIA Director and his Dad used to be CIA Director (oh yeah, and President). Fitzgerald works for the Justice Department and reports to somebody. Bush is at the top of that food chain, too.

Friggin' duh - - of course Bush knows who the "leaker" is. He can basically find out anything he wants to know. I am confident that Bush doesn't have a care in the world about any of this Plame nonsense.

Novak must be worrying he's not getting enough invitations this year to the important D. C. "holiday" parties and wants to cause a little of the buzz that will raise the value of his seasonal presence to the lib hosts and guests therein.

You're right. Just because you sound like John Kerry doesn't mean that Kerry is your boy.

But not "leaks" by partisan hacks whose wives work for the CIA?
