Excerpt:
Indian Americans are one of the wealthiest and best-educated communities in the United States. With a median household income of $60,093, compared with $41,110 for non-Hispanic white families, there are few groups that have comparable income levels.

why do we NEED people like that to immigrate here
Because odd ball immigrants like that change the world. The ice cream trucks they are buying may be the next Ben and Jerrys in 10 years.. I hear that Albert Einstein was quite an oddball immigrant, yelling at himself all night, keeping his neighbors awake.. His house reeked of garbage at times.. naaa.. don't need people like that...

Indian cooking does give out seemingly offensive smells, and it is somewhat understandable to not want to live near them for this reason.

Most. And they probably make more money than most of us.

According to Dr. Samuel Huntington's classic, Who are we?, Indians and Filipinos have the lowest welfare recipients in the entire US. The Chinese are next but the difference between the Indians/Filipinos and the Chinese is not very significant. In any case, percentages of welfare recipients among Asian immigrants (except muslims) is quite insignificant.

Well, if it were not for Indians, we could not get any programmers under age 35 at all. There are simply no Americans available with the skills needed in the NY metro area. Or if there are, they are not sending in their resume when we offer jobs paying $60-90K.

My home county of about 700,000 people is now 14% Asian-American, evenly split between East Asian and South Asian; my home town has an even high percentage of Asian residents, particularly South Asian.
The value of my father's house has doubled in the last 8 years. I doubt the presence of Asian immigrants has been much of a factor, except insofar as they're drawn by the good reputation of the schools and then help to maintain the reputation once they're there.

All this talk about Indian food is making me hungry.. Time for some Tandori Chicken for lunch.

Didn't that town have any codes? And you lived next to them long enough for all this to go on and don't even know if they were Indian or Pakis?

So they're better Americans than many American-born citizens?

Watch it though, Indian food was meant for Indian lifestyles that involved heavy work in the fields. With the work gone, you'll see the pounds adding up pretty fast.
If you eat it, make sure you burn it...

Seriously. I am going to have to leave this thread... I only have $4 in my wallet, am trying to keep my weight down, and the buffets I like are on the wrong end of my commute.

Immigration whould be based on whether or not they have something of value to add to our society imo.

It depends on how you define "American", but on average they're much more entrepreneurial and likely to start up their own small businesses. You tell me if that's a trait we like.

"Well I will not argue the fine points with you."
Of course you won't argue the fine points....a couple of posters have already shown how illogical your original argument was. Here is some advice - please find out some truth about the people you are trying to slander. Ignorance does not work on a forum like this because you are doing to be called on your ignorance and misrepresentations.
Finally, steretyping is not a good practice, especially when it is based on your weird experience with one neighbor of unknown origin.

And we got the smartest and hardest working ones too. I had some car trouble last night and an Indian coworker went out of his way to give me a lift home. Good guy. His son is studying biomedical engineering and applying to medical schools. He is getting some interviews at medical schools too.
My daughter is studying chemical engineering at Rice University and many of her classmates are Indians. They are a tough bunch to go up against when the class is graded on a curve and the class average is a 55.
To: wtc911
Considering they spoke NO English....no I never knew exactly where they were from. Try getting a city to enforce codes. I turned them in numerous times.

I have to say, I don't find your implication that the bad neighbors were probably just Pakistanis to be a lot more tasteful than the original post.
