Image expansion software for making huge freep posters

Posted on 12/13/2005 11:26:27 PM PST by lqclamar

Hello - I have a technical question for anybody who is good with computer software or images.

I've read on several threads where people have posted links to image files with blown-up billboard size freep banners where you piece 8 or 10 pages of regular printer paper together to make a giant poster. A lot of these seem to go into PDF files.

Here's my question: I have some campaign logo files that are regular 1-page sized and want to make them where I can print them out into a banner or billboard size. Is there any special software or freeware program that does this easily? Any that avoids the pixelation effect of expanding smaller image files? Thanks!

Hopefully there will be a resident graphics expert watching the thread that can make a shareware suggestion, -but what I do is use an "image" slicer, you set the properties of each slice to be the maximum printable surface of a page.

It will then out put all the individual "slices" to a folder, you simply print each one out, you may need to trim the margins with a paper-cutter.

Hope this helped. -Most higher end image editing applications allow this.. But do a google search for (image slicer)slicing

Hope this helped!

Anyone else?

I see that Paint Shop Pro contains an image slicer module:

You need to be aware that you cannot stretch a small graphic file into a larger one without significant degradation. You must start out with a large file-a lot of data available for a larger image. If you have such a file, you can probably just use a 30 day trial version of Macromedia Fireworks to slice the image.

You can get your poster printed on a single sheet by taking your graphics file to a service bureau with a "wide-format printer". Optionally, they can mount it on foam board and laminate it.

It sounds to me like you're looking for a image rasterizer. This is a pretty good(and free) one...
