Europeans outraged at Williams execution [Tookie Stadium]

VIENNA, Austria - California's execution of Stanley Tookie Williams on Tuesday outraged many in Europe who regard the practice as barbaric, and politicians in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's native Austria called for his name to be removed from a sports stadium in his hometown.

At the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI's top official for justice matters denounced the death penalty for going against redemption and human dignity.

"We know the death penalty doesn't resolve anything," Cardinal Renato Martino told AP Television News. "Even a criminal is worthy of respect because he is a human being. The death penalty is a negation of human dignity."

Part of the redemption process is repentence. In order to repent, one must: feel sorry for what he or she has done, must confess his or her sin, make restitution and never commit the sin again. In the case of murder, the only possible restitution is the life of the murderer. Gov. Schwarzenegger was 100% correct. With out repentence, there can be no redemption.

Rome's Colosseum, once the arena for deadly gladiator combat and executions, has become a symbol of Italy's anti-death penalty stance. Since 1999, the monument has been bathed in golden light every time a death sentence is commuted somewhere in the world or a country abolishes capital punishment.

"I hope there will be such an occasion soon," Veltroni said in a statement. "When it happens, we will do it with a special thought for Tookie."

Ain't that sweet?

"Even a criminal is worthy of respect because he is a human being.

Let's reword that: Even a victim is worthy of respect because he/she is a human being. This is about justice, not revenge. Some people just don't get the concept. Now we can be sure he WON'T do it again. Those liberals need to take a flying leap.

We, you idiot, know no such thing. It solves, permanently, the problem of recidevism.

In addition, it's healthy to know that even Cardinals can be morons, with all due respect, since I can think of several dozen human beings deserving no respect whatsoever. That might include some "sheltered" human leeches without a clue.

Also, I find it unlikely that the local Graz city council will change the name of their local stadium from that of their favorite son to that of an American gangster.

And, if they did, why should I care one iota?

During the French Revolution they were lobbing off about 50 heads a day, no trial, women, children and old folks included.

I hate it when the sandmaggots and other losers do that: compare societal atrocities of 215 yers ago with a system of justice of today.

Let's not go there. The comparison is asinine.

In Schwarzenegger's hometown of Graz, local Greens said they would file a petition to remove his name from the southern city's sports stadium. A Christian political group went even further, suggesting it be renamed the "Stanley Tookie Williams Stadium."

I understand opposition to the death penalty, but that is completely different from glorifying the murderer condemned to death.

Do you consider Cardinal Martino an idiot?

Yes I do.
As a matter of fact, anyone who would say that, ""We know the death penalty doesn't resolve anything,

I would consider a clear and present idiot...

The death penalty is a negation of human dignity

The Cardinal is somewhat out of step. The punishment is contractual and the ultimate affirmation of the dignity of the perp. It is the highest ritual honor the state can bestow.

You would think that a couple of centuries would have to pass before the Austrians would be allowed to lecture anybody about putting people to death.

wow they want to name a stadium after Tookie!

There's lots of "crips" we can send them... Here's the deal, they can send us a pint of ice cream and we'll send them every crip willing to relocate. And it buying pint of ice cream is too costly, we'll take less.
