SAN QUENTIN, Calif. (AP) -- Convicted killer Stanley Tookie Williams, the Crips gang co-founder whose case stirred a national debate about capital punishment versus the possibility of redemption, was executed early Tuesday.
Williams, 51, died at 12:35 a.m. Officials at San Quentin State Prison seemed to have trouble injecting the lethal mixture into his muscular arm. As they struggled to find a vein, Williams looked up repeatedly and appeared frustrated, shaking his head at supporters and other witnesses.
"You doing that right?" it sounded as if he asked one of the men with a needle.
After he was declared dead, his supporters shouted in unison: "The state of California just killed an innocent man," as they walked out of the chamber
The case became the state's highest-profile execution in decades. Hollywood stars and capital punishment foes argued that Williams' sentence should be commuted to life in prison because he had made amends by writing children's books about the dangers of gangs and violence.
In the days leading up to the execution, state and federal courts refused to reopen his case. Monday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger denied Williams' request for clemency, suggesting that his supposed change of heart was not genuine because he had not shown any real remorse for the killings committed by the Crips.
"Is Williams' redemption complete and sincere, or is it just a hollow promise?" Schwarzenegger wrote. "Without an apology and atonement for these senseless and brutal killings, there can be no redemption."
Williams was condemned in 1981 for gunning down convenience store clerk Albert Owens, 26, at a 7-Eleven in Whittier and killing Yen-I Yang, 76, Tsai-Shai Chen Yang, 63, and the couple's daughter Yu-Chin Yang Lin, 43, at the Los Angeles motel they owned. Williams claimed he was innocent.

Records from the L.A. County D.A.'s office say different. And I think I would place more credibility on their office than some anonymous source on FR. LOL

It's a big "So what?" to me. The left-wing just uses the Nobel as their tool anymore so it is just as much as joke as my nomination.
Tookie never apologized or atoned for what he had done.
Instead he spent 20 plus years trying to game the system.
Here is the history of a mass murderer who actually repented of his crimes, and chose to atone for them.
His name was Steven Renfro.
Steven's parents separated shortly after he was born and his father lost touch with both the mother and son for about 35 years. Steven's grandmother located Steven and reconciled him with with his father.
Steven was raised by his aunt, Rose Rutledge, near Marshall, Texas. He went to high school with Rick Berry, a Harrison County district attorney who later prosecuted Steven.
On August 25, 1996, after taking what he later told authorities were 70 doses of the tranquilizer Valium along with liquor, Steven put on camouflage clothing, blackened his face and armed himself with four guns including a military assault rifle and some 500 rounds of ammunition.
He shot and killed his live-in girlfriend, Rhena Fultner, 36, then Aunt Rose Rutledge, 63, who lived with them. Then he went to a nearby trailer home of an acquaintance, George Counts, 40, against whom he had a grudge, and fatally shot him, firing more than 150 rounds into Counts' mobile home.
When police arrived, he opened fire again, wounding Marshall police officer Dominic Pondant in the shoulder and turning his patrol car "into Swiss cheese," as authorities described it. Police were out gunned by Steven's .45 and .50 caliber handguns and an AR-15 rifle, but one of his weapons malfunctioned and officer Pondant was able to hit Steven.
He was convicted the following April and ended his trail by telling jurors he should be put to death. They agreed.
He asked that no appeals be pursued. At his execution, he apologized to the family members of the victims and said a prayer.
He was executed on February 9, 1998, after spending the second shortest time on Texas' death row.
The media and Hollywood celebrities were conspicuous by their absence.

There exists somewhere a photo of Gacy and Roslyn Carter. He was a Democrat supporter and it was one of those campaign stop photos. My guess is that he embarrassed one of their goddesses and they were only too happy to see him pass from the scene.
Anyone see Bianca Jagger yesterday? She was reciting the usual lefty talking points re Stanley Tookie Williams, then rebutted some journalist (sorry, name escapes me) who pointed out that Stanley wanted it both ways at trial: he tried a "mental disability" defense, but that didn't 'wash'. Gov. Reagan saved a man awaiting execution who was mentally disturbed.
Bianca responded that wasn't true, that Tookie didn't try the crazy defense--keep in mind that the left was painting this murderer as a principled, courageous man who refused to 'cop out' by admitting guilt for something he didn't do--and then Miss Nicaragua had to sit there like a bump on a log when the journalist asked her if she had bothered to read the trial transcript.
As usual, Bianca,like Mike Farrell, long on liberal passion but short on facts.
And Farrell and others calling the Terminator a "coward" for refusing to pardon Stan. Just more liberal ad hominem.
Now I never said he was married did I? I only said that he had two sons. I doubt that little Tookie was man enough to stand before a judge and actually promise to love and cherish someone.
these people like Bianca Jagger and Ariana Huffington who are given notoriety just because they were married to a celebrity is laughable; other than being married to a celebrity they have ZIP, ZERO, NADA credibility.
And it has been proven repeatedly they know little about the case and/or history of this murderer.
BTW, for those who don't know this, Williams' son is also serving life in prison for murder...
I guess his son didn't get a copy of any of dad's books.
I was hearing on the news that some of the guards in the death row cell block were saying that despite the public image conjured up for us by the "spinarets", Tookie was the meanest most unpleasent man in the whole cell block...a few of the guards had received death threats from out of jail Crips members. They were saying that we were right to execute Tookie!
It's for the children.............
what is so screwed up is they ran that shameful ad connecting Dubya to that dragging murder in Texas demanded the death penalty, got it and the guys there now have redeemed themselves let's see the racebaiting jesse jackson go to texas and plea for the "white boys's lives", it wil never happen, it's all about face time on t.v and in print The NAACP it's ill, including Jesse and Al should never be invited to the W.H (the collective group are nothing but hate America, racebaiting pimps and opportunists)

Really? Look at Tookie's own website. If he was so innocent, for what was he apologizing?
