I was hearing on the news that some of the guards in the death row cell block were saying that despite the public image conjured up for us by the "spinarets", Tookie was the meanest most unpleasent man in the whole cell block...a few of the guards had received death threats from out of jail Crips members. They were saying that we were right to execute Tookie!

Could this kind of thing be why it took the technicians so long to hook him up to the apparatus? A little extra-curricular payback?

First of all I don't doubt this for a second. Second of all, one has to wonder if this played into the whole process - one could imagine that this sort of info would make it to the governator's desk and could conceivably be one of very many factors used to come to his decision.
