SAN QUENTIN, Calif. (AP) -- Convicted killer Stanley Tookie Williams, the Crips gang co-founder whose case stirred a national debate about capital punishment versus the possibility of redemption, was executed early Tuesday.
Williams, 51, died at 12:35 a.m. Officials at San Quentin State Prison seemed to have trouble injecting the lethal mixture into his muscular arm. As they struggled to find a vein, Williams looked up repeatedly and appeared frustrated, shaking his head at supporters and other witnesses.
"You doing that right?" it sounded as if he asked one of the men with a needle.
After he was declared dead, his supporters shouted in unison: "The state of California just killed an innocent man," as they walked out of the chamber
The case became the state's highest-profile execution in decades. Hollywood stars and capital punishment foes argued that Williams' sentence should be commuted to life in prison because he had made amends by writing children's books about the dangers of gangs and violence.
In the days leading up to the execution, state and federal courts refused to reopen his case. Monday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger denied Williams' request for clemency, suggesting that his supposed change of heart was not genuine because he had not shown any real remorse for the killings committed by the Crips.
"Is Williams' redemption complete and sincere, or is it just a hollow promise?" Schwarzenegger wrote. "Without an apology and atonement for these senseless and brutal killings, there can be no redemption."
Williams was condemned in 1981 for gunning down convenience store clerk Albert Owens, 26, at a 7-Eleven in Whittier and killing Yen-I Yang, 76, Tsai-Shai Chen Yang, 63, and the couple's daughter Yu-Chin Yang Lin, 43, at the Los Angeles motel they owned. Williams claimed he was innocent.

And let us not forget that this murderer and co-founder of the Crips had an excellent opportunity last night to make an invocation to all young people to stay out of gangs, stay away from drugs, stay out of trouble and get an education; and he also had an excellent opportunity to apologize for forming the Crips for all the crimes, death and destruction that the gangs have put on society around America but he FAILED MISERABLY TO DO SO!
so much for the infamous author...
It was supposed to start at 12:01. It took 34 minutes for him to die?
All this nonsense about children's books, and him steering children away from gangs was the usual leftist concocted fairy tales to try to save a thug. Screw 'em.
If he had been white, he would have been guilty.
"Is tha tape available?"
I believe it is on the link I provided from the L.A. DA.
It is the satanic definition of "innocent".
Funny how before John Wayne Gacy was executed, you didn't hear the lefties saying how he used to entertain sick children in hospitals as a clown.
Probably asking for ice water right about now.
"It took 34 minutes for him to die?"
I believe he was pronounced dead after about twenty minutes.
but don't hold me to that...

As noted on another thread, Williams was not "co-founder" of the Crips. I guess Tookie's fan club felt a need to pump up his murderous resume to make his "redemption" seem more impressive.
More hype designed to make this two-bit thug seem to be more than what he is, er, I mean was.
When the left embrace Tookie as a Hero I do not feel bad at all calling them Sicko,s . The Rev Jesse Jerkson was only there because of the many TV Camera,s . When he killed a Chinese famly . Tookie bragged about killing Budda Heads . When he killed a Convience store clerk he laughed about the Gurgleing sound the man was making as he drowned in his own blood . I hope Tookie Rots in the Fires of Hell .
---snip--- that Williams' sentence should be commuted to life in prison because he had made amends by writing children's books about the dangers of gangs and violence.
Innocent? Or made amends? They don't seem to see the discrepancy. But we knew that. I was thinking that the victims have some justice finally, some peace, but his gang is still out there, with anger renewed over his death. Innocent? Puh-lease... It seems even in death, even in attempts to bring justice, he manages to tweak the situation to serve his ends.
Pay backs are a bitch...maybe it was intentional, hope so.....
Yep. He shot one of his victims in the lower back and let the poor man suffer as he died.
Tookie got far better treatment than did his victims.
Hell, Tookie got to appeal his sentence.
I used to work with a guy like that. Total nutjob, and he hated Christians, too.
Oh Dan, you can't be serious! Once upon a time, little Tookie went to a 7-11 to get some milk for a homeless woman and her baby. He wanted to get an evil gun off the streets so he decided to trade it for some milk. The gun accidentally went off, and the clerk was killed. But it wasn't Tookie's fault. No siree. No way, no how.
And later, he went to a motel to try to find a room for some homeless people. He didn't have any money. But he tried to get an evil gun off the streets and he decided to trade it for a room. But the gun accidentally went off, and three asians were killed. Tookie said, "Oh my, a Buddhist was shot in the head", yeah, that's what he said, that's the ticket. But it wasn't his fault, No siree, No way, no how.
Anyway, no one lived happily ever after.
