Asner Says He Faced Fox "Lynch Mob"
TV Newser ^ | 12/13/05 | Brian Stelter

Actor Ed Asner, a death penalty opponent, appeared on Court TV today to talk about the Stanley "Tookie" Williams case. He said he felt like he was appearing before a lynch mob when he appeared on Fox recently:

"...I would be amazed if he did commute. It just strikes me that you know we go through these dog and pony shows all the time. It gives me an opportunity to appear before your cameras and spout and it gives other people a very good platform to spout.

I must say that on your program from the guests that you've had on prior to me I am very impressed with the quality and the fact that you've given equal time to anti death penalty or certainly to commutation, clemency in this case.

I was on FOX TV the other day and I thought I was appearing before a lynch mob. So it's very refreshing to be on your show."

I wonder how many people will date themselves by recognizing that quote? :-)

Sigh! I remember it.

In my area cable has shown reruns of many of these shows. I liked Robert Stack in "Untouchables" and in "Strike Force" (it's theme song in great to help you stay awake when driving). I like also the early "Law & Order" but now they have become too frenzied with pushing messages, especially on SVU.

Ed is 100% communist......................

Poor old Ed, he and other malcontents like Norman Mailer have that sullen, dreary look about them that can only be brought about by years and years of hating almost all forms of authority.

They remind me of the Bolsheviks up on the reviewing stand in Red Square, still hoping that the "revolution" will bear some fruit someday.

Pathetic!

“His hero is Stalin?”

Asner is a burned out 1940’s style USSR-lover. Saw him on C-SPAN last week so he’s still stealing the people’s oxygen.

But get this: Stalin-worship isn’t confined to worthless old lefty farts like Asner. I was deployed to Uzbekistan 2003-04 in support of our forces in next door Afghanistan.

Uzbeks suffered under Russian, then Soviet domination for 150 years. But one day this beautiful young Uzbek hottie who worked as a contractor secretary said to me in ice cold perfect English, “Listen, because I want you to know one thing: I admire Josef Stalin!!”

I said, “Oh, because he killed seventy million people!!?”

Beautiful Yuliya calmly replied, “You need a strong hand to rule a large country like the Soviet Union!”

(This girl was twenty-two, with waist length hair.)

Go figure.
