US refuses to commit to avoid attacking Iran
Jerusalem Post ^ | 12/13/5 | JPOST.COM STAFF

Posted on 12/12/2005 8:17:54 PM PST by SmithL

The United States on Tuesday International Atomic Energy Agency head Mohamed ElBaradei's call to state explicitly that it has no plans to launch a military strike against Iran.

The spokesman for the State Department in Washington asserted that at this point the burden of proof lies with the Iranians, and they must follow through with their commitments to the international community.

ElBaradei claimed that an announcement in which the US insists it would not attack, might encourage Iran to cease its nuclear development plans, according to Israel Radio.

Robert Joseph, the US Secretary of State's aide said last week that he believed Iran would not back down from its nuclear ambitions and would even risk UN sanctions.

"ElBaradei claimed that an announcement in which the US insists it would not attack, might encourage Iran to cease its nuclear development plans...."

And if Neville Chamberlain just lets Hitler have Czechoslovakia, it might encourage Hitler not to invade Poland.

"And if Neville Chamberlain just lets Hitler have Czechoslovakia, it might encourage Hitler not to invade Poland."

Slightly disingenuos coming from the mouth of an American.

Chamberlain bought the UK time, exactly the right course of action for the situation. Given the wholloping Germany gave the BEF any other course of action would have been extremely foolhardy.

Elbaradei is such a fool. What do US intentions to attack have to do with Iran's nuclear program? If Iran thinks the US will attack, does that mean it can and will continue development despite the attack? And if Iran thinks that the US will not attack, does that mean that Iran will suddenly be chastened, stop flouting the international community's demands by giving up nukes voluntarily, and maybe while they are at it apologize for all that embarrassing embassy stuff that happened a quarter century ago?

What vapid nonsense.

Iran will bomb them back. Nukes perhaps...as they prob already have them.

This will be the show of our time.

Oh, come on. That moron went back to England waving his paper and blathering about "peace in our time."

He wasn't stalling for time; he was doing what he'd been doing all along: trying to appease.

If England had listened to Churchill in the early 30s, WWII wouln't have happened.

Strike now. Strike hard. No one gets out alive. Men, women, and children. No more of this pin point accuracy crap. Time to set an example. Wipe that whole nation out of existence. Let the whole world see their blood fill the streets. Then move on to the next.

If we can't do it that way then we should just put our tails between our legs and shut up. We have forgotten how to fight wars.

Reminds me of an old Star Trek episode where the civilizations "advanced" in fighting wars that they just played it out on a computer and when the computer tallied the results of what casualties would have occurred in a certain type of attack, masses of numerically identified people would line up to be incinerated. Quick, painless, and no mess. Wars never end that way.

At least he took a stand in the end. If England had done a lot of things WW2 wouldn't have happened, not least of reviewing the terms of the treaty of Verseille.

Strange bed fellows congregate in a time of need. Israel would not be alone logistically or otherwise.

As far as the probability of Russians manning the launchers, they of course would be considered mercanaries.

" How can Israel "handle" Iran "pretty easily"?"

According to what I've read, Israel can field a 1000000 man force. They can also fly more sorties than the U.S. can in that part of the world.

They have kicked Arab a$$ before and they can do it again. All we do is get in the way.

Yeah, alternative history, but I can dream can't I? Like the American nation at that time having a President with even a shred of courage and effective leadership skills....

Mohamed ElBaradei gives us prime examples as to why we shouldn't trust Egypt.
