Hours after California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger denied clemency Monday for convicted killer Stanley Tookie Williams, lawyers for the Crips street gang co-founder filed a last-ditch appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court for a stay of execution.
Unless the Supreme Court intervenes, Williams is scheduled to die by injection at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday (3:01 a.m. ET) at San Quentin State Prison, near San Francisco.
Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, who met with Williams earlier in the day, criticized Schwarzenegger for deciding not to spare Williams.
Jackson said Williams, who was convicted of killing four people in two 1979 robberies in Los Angeles, had earned clemency and that Schwarzenegger's decision was about "making politicians look tough, but that does not make it right."

The only good crip is a dead crip.""
And there is not nearly enough of them in that condition. IMO.
An urban myth promoted by California's liberal press and unreputed by Willams to add an aura to his invincibility has now back fired on both. Williams, although an early disciple and activist member of the gang, did not "found" the Crips.
Raymond Washington, a 15-year-old, started the gang in 1969. The Baby Avenues, also known as the Avenue Cribs, were eventually called the Crips by the LA Sentinel after a notorious incident in 1971. The name stuck.
Stanley Williams is reported to have joined the gang at the time the Crips first gained widespread, public infamy in south central LA (1971/72).
Well, it is close to Christmas and a riot would help fill those gift lists.
Are his last comments, written down to be called "Crip Notes"?
And the last sound he hears is a group mimicing his gurgling sounds and laughing!
And Jesse better realize it, he is a has-been. What sane person listens to anything that he has to say?
Today, Tookie,
Tomorrow, Hades' Rookie!
I LIKE that one! Nothing quite like being a rookie no matter where you go...:)
ElPatriota,
The only picture anyone seems to have of the victims while they lived is the picture of Albert Owens in his Air Force uniform.
I have not seen pictures of any of the other victims, except the post-mortem pics which have been posted.
I agree with you, but I don't know if anyone has the pictures.
Under the Tookie clause, priests, doctors and such should be allowed to kill a certain number of people, gratis. After all, they've probably already saved a number of lives. Put that on the credit side. Then, there are all those lives and souls they'll save in the future, more than enough to "redeem" themselves. The better they are, the more lives they'd be allowed to take. Ferrell, Jackson, and Jagger could keep a balance sheet and tell us mere humans what the score is!
I think I'm on to something here! :^)
Damm it, that is SO SAD..... I am sure their picture MUST exist... high school pics... anything. You know, this alone shows how...what?... disinterested the entire media is... no Hollywood asses crying for the victims... amazing!
See?... Things like this is what made me leave the Democratic party... to me, the victim. ALLLLLLLLLLLWAYS COMES FIRST!..... ALWAYS.... ALWAYS. And a life taken, can NEVER NEVER BE REPLACED, even if you become a saint!... you still must pay.
In refusing to choose a last meal, refusing to choose a method of execution, and refusing to cooperate, he's showing us the real Tookie at his belligerent best.
Tookie is a typical convict. For years he fought against the system, participating in violent conduct against staff and other inmates. Then as the years passed, and the time got closer to his execution, he was faced with a dilemma: Do I continue to be myself and go out with a bang, or do I attempt to scam the system and save my ass by playing nice-nice? We all know the route Tookie chose. He's never changed. He just learned how to play the institutional game, and managed to con a whole lot of people while doing it.
I agree, it is sad, but it is possible the victims except were all from a family and did not have a photographic history or archive...I don't know. I do know they would have surfaced already if they had existed, or at least I am pretty sure of it.
"...refusing to choose a method of execution..."
I have some suggestions.
Bye-bye Tookie Good-by. Now its time to say bye.
I hope Tookie wants to live as much as his victims did - right up to the very moment they give that monster his letal cocktail.
But I prefer hanging myself - its environmentally frendly - rope is recyclable and it can be used many times also.
Unlike the chair, it conserves electricity.
Are they sure they're quoting Jessie right? He always sounmds like he has marbles in his mouth to me.
Sorry, but there will be no riots. I know this must be a great disappointment to you and a few others.
---File on. After midnight no one will even care how many things you filed. I have but one regret of his execution and that is he can't take his supporters with him .
It sincerely is. I was looking forward to the non-stop news coverage and not having to live through them live and local like I did last time (1992). Well, I can only hope...
(btw, this is not a mark of sympathy for the scuzball...this is a sign of total antipathy for Southern California and the culture it's inflicted on the rest of the country)
See a doctor.
